Tip#1258: The Recipe For Resilience, Part 64 – Source Code

This is Day 545 of the COVID-19 pandemic here in Toronto, Canada.

This past week was filled with cool synchronicities of films I thought about that connected with my current interest on the Hawaiian healing process of Ho’oponopono I wrote about in recent posts (Read more: Tip#1257). Movies like Vanilla Sky starring Tom Cruise came up about waking up and taking control and 100% responsibility of every aspect of our life which was the core theme of Ho’oponopono.

It’s about believing that every thing you experience, good or bad, was actually created by you and so you have the power to change it. This was further reinforced in my mind with an exciting trailer for a new, fourth Matrix movie released this week. The Matrix Resurrection scenes continued the theme of waking up from a trapped life and taking control of your reality. See: trailer

Ho’oponopono phrases:
• I’m sorry
• Please forgive me
• I love you
• Thank you

I wanted to find a movie to further inspire me with how Ho’oponopono could be used to help break myself out of the “Groundhog Day loop” I’m still in. After all I created this loop in the first place. So after repeating the four phrases, a Sci Fi film came to mind and I watched it again with great enthusiasm!

Source Code (2011)

The science-fiction action thriller film, Source Code, is about U.S. Army Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) waking up over and over again in someone else's body and discovers he's part of an experimental government program to find the bomber of a commuter train. This entertaining and very engaging movie has “Groundhog Day” feel to it and stars Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga and Jeffrey Wright.

It’s been years since I saw this film and seeing it again really inspired me in believing I could break free of my life traps just like the hero does in this film. He overcomes his own “Groundhog Day loop”. He demonstrated great courage, perseverance, resilience and even an altruistic spirit to help others after he had solved his assigned problem. I highly recommend this film to motivate you to find solutions to your loops in life.

It takes a lot of courage to take 100% responsibility of everything that happens in your life. Some solutions may seem really strange and impossible and yet if what you’ve been doing hasn’t been helping then you have nothing to lose but to try something new. Find a movie hero today to help open your mind and recreate a new, happier reality!

Tip#1257: The Recipe For Resilience, Part 63 – Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

This is Day 538 of the COVID-19 pandemic here in Toronto, Canada.

This week I was excited to design a new series of graphics to promote my Content Creator services! They show fun examples of my work with various film and food related clients and my goal is to attract new, awesome clients for the next chapter of my life and career.

At the same time, designing these examples reminded me of certain clients that treated me badly. That’s when I knew these were old, emotional blocks stuck inside me and needed clearing in order to move forward. These were painful memories that anyone could relate to and still ruminating of times someone had been mean and hurtful to them.

So I’ve been putting into practice the life coaching tips from Steffi Black Coaching I mentioned in the previous blog post about doing “What If?” statements. She also reminded me of the Hawaiian self-love affirmations of Ho’oponopono: “I’m sorry, Please forgive me, Thank you, I love you”.

Read more: Tip#884
Read more: Ho’oponopono: How to practice it in 4 simple steps

This process is about taking responsibility for everything that’s happened, sending yourself more compassion as well as sending love to the person that hurt you by saying their name with the four affirmations. All these healing practices are about healing my past and inner child and were synchronistically mirrored in a new film I just saw!

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)

The superhero, action film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is about Shaun/Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) who is forced to confront his childhood traumas and his immortal father, Xu Wenwu's (Tony Leung) leader of the Ten Rings organization. This highly entertaining movie is filled with thrilling fight scenes, special effects, mythical creatures and strong performances by Liu and Leung as well as Awkwafina, Meng'er Zhang, Fala Chen, Florian Munteanu, Benedict Wong, Michelle Yeoh, Ben Kingsley, and Tony Leung.
See: movie trailer
Watch/Rent or Buy now: Amazon Prime Video

I was so blown away with how much I loved this movie! The script, tone, pacing, characters and overall cinematic experience was so satisfying. I also believe the abundant Asian representation will have a positive affect as role models in our global culture. I was also moved by many emotional moments that mirrored my own relationship with dad growing up and memories I know I need to heal. The movie hero would be an inspiration for me with his courage and perseverance.

One fight scene I loved was one that transformed into a dance. The profound beauty of this conflict/partnership was a reminder that all my own past conflicts with clients or people were a necessary part of my growing as a person. They were playing a role for me to learn from and ultimately have to let go of.

We could choose to dwell on the painful memories of the past. Or we could choose to see them from a higher perspective and take responsibility for the thoughts and feelings ruminating in our minds. Find a film today with a movie hero that mirrors your experiences. Let them inspire your own inner strengths and resilience to heal and move forward!

Tip#1256: The Recipe For Resilience, Part 62 – Free Guy

This is Day 531 of the COVID-19 pandemic here in Toronto, Canada.

We’ve been having a heat wave so I’m in summer vacation mode. At the same time many profound, mystical and magical things have been happening that are being shared on my two Instagram accounts for Food and Films (@motivatorman1 and @moviesformotivation).

It actually started with finding those amazing BluRay box sets at a thrift store I wrote about in the previous blog post (see #1255). Soon after, there was one day I was feeling stuck in my work and life and needed guidance. To clear my head I went on a walk through a forest, sat on a park bench and then sent a prayer for help out to God and the universe. Despite the very hot day, I listened to my inner voice and continued to walk down neighborhood streets not knowing exactly where I was headed.

Along the way I came across two homes giving away free books and DVDs on their front lawns. I knew that whatever I chose were divine answers to my prayer. First, these free treasures immediately lifted my mood. Second, one of the finds was an old childhood book I loved called Curious George and this would connect later with advice I received from Steffi Black, a friend and life coach. See: Steffi Black Coaching

She told me a week before about this “What If” concept that could help me face my challenges. I was already watching the new Marvel animated TV series What If so I loved this wonderful synchronicity! The concept was about being curious to train my brain and mood to focus on the possibilities such as “What if I got my dream job as a Food Influencer and Content Creator?”. It was about getting into a curious mindset.

And so finding the Curious George book was a fantastic message from the universe to practice being curious and create more “What If” statements every day. Doing this immediately led to more synchronicities like a friend’s unexpected invitation to go back to a movie theatre. It’s been over 18 months since quarantine started back in March 2020. My friend suggested seeing Free Guy and I just knew the film would have more key life lessons for me!

Free Guy (2021)

The science fiction action comedy film, Free Guy, is about a bank teller named Guy (Ryan Reynolds) who discovers that he is actually a background character in a video game and becomes the hero of the story to save his friends from deletion by the game's creator Antwan (Taika Waititi). This visually explosive movie was filled with hilarious moments and lively characters played by Reynolds, Waititi and Jodie Comer, Joe Keery, Lil Rel Howery, and Utkarsh Ambudkar also star in the film.
See: movie trailer
Watch/Rent or Buy now: Amazon Prime Video

This highly entertaining film had elements of The Truman Show, The Matrix, Groundhog Day, Wreck-It-Ralph and Ready Player One. And along with the dazzling visual effects there were a number of life lessons that spoke to me:

• Take a risk to break free of an old, routine life
• Freeing your mind to see amazing, new possibilities
• Using adversity to build skills sets and new experiences
• Maintaining indestructible optimism
• Believing and finding true love

Seeing this film helped me ask myself, “What if I could break free of being stuck in my life loop?” and “What if I could have a blissful new life like Guy?” or “What if I had the same courage as the hero of this film?”

There is a feeling of safety being stuck in a routine life. But if you make a decision to break free then that’s a fantastic step towards a more satisfying life. The next steps will come synchronistically. Just get into a curious mindset and just ask yourself: “What if…?”

Tip#1255: The Recipe For Resilience, Part 61 – Night at the Museum Trilogy

This is Day 508 of the COVID-19 pandemic here in Toronto, Canada.

This summer I continue to find ways of letting go and declutter my home by doing regular donations to Value Village. They have a great reward system with discount coupons for each donation and I love the idea that getting rid of stuff creates a space for the new to come into my life!

I recently had a thrilling thrift store find after I did a donation. I found 3 BluRays of the extended Lord of the Rings trilogy that each contained 4 discs. And then to my amazement I found BluRay box sets for 3 of 4 seasons of the Battlestar Galactica remake! I’ve been wanting to own and rewatch these shows because they were excellent, inspirational examples of extreme resilience and perseverance. The bonus was that they were each $9.99 and in excellent condition!

The act of letting go in order for the new to show up was reflected in my revisiting another trilogy. Seeing these three chapters together of a movie hero’s journey was an emotional experience in many ways.

Night at the Museum (2006)

While rewatching this film I resonated with Ben Stiller’s character Larry who needed an immediate job and when he asked, this unique, magical opportunity as a museum night guard fell right in his lap. This inspired me with my dream of becoming a professional Food Influencer & Content Creator and that magical opportunities can happen.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (2009)

I loved seeing Amy Adams as Amelia Earhart again because she was so full of life and a joy of living and adventure! And Larry later learns the key to happiness that Robin Williams’s character Theodore Roosevelt was trying to tell him: The key to happiness is doing what you love with people that you love. I loved this so much it has become my mantra!

Watch/Rent or Buy now: Amazon Prime Video

Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (2014)

Like the previous film, this chapter features some stunning visuals like a fight scene within a maze illustration by M.C. Escher. But there was a sadness I felt throughout the film because I could feel Larry’s knowing that his museum adventure was going to end. This was also Robin Williams last film before he died and I was emotional seeing his final scene.

In the end Larry had to say goodbye to all his museum friends in order to move onto his next chapter in life. And, of course, this touched my soul and encouraged my need to enter my own new chapter.

Saying goodbye to something or someone can be so difficult and yet may be the only way to break free of the past and achieve our dreams and goals. If you need inspiration or motivation then remember that your favourite movies could have the cinematic life lessons and wisdom you seek. Find a perfect film to watch today!

Tip#1254: The Recipe For Resilience, Part 60 – Chef

This is Day 494 of the COVID-19 pandemic here in Toronto, Canada.

I've been really enjoying designing new graphics for my Food Influencer career! These show examples of what I can do with social media posts on Instagram, Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter to attract restaurants and food businesses to my services. I also had a fantastic coaching session via Zoom reuniting with friends and career coaches Day Merrill and Michael Locey of 2BDetermined

They provided many tips and leads and encouragement for growing my Influencer initiative. And they especially helped me refocus my mindset on words I choose to say to reinforce my present reality with the brighter future I want!

Follow my Food & Mood tips on Instagram: @motivatorman1

The very next day more motivation came as I reconnected with another friend and Transformational & Accountability Coach, Patrick Bizindavyi, of Unleashed Possibilities. It was a social visit and yet he gave me so many tips and shared many inspirational stories to support me as a Food Influencer!

All these recent reunions reminded me of the very fast support the movie hero experienced in the film Chef. When he found the courage to follow his passion he instantly magnetized all the help he needed!

Chef (2014)

The comedy drama film, Chef, is about Head Chef Carl Casper (Jon Favreau) who quits his restaurant job and buys a food truck in an effort to free his creative passion for food. This highly entertaining movie is filled with delicious foodie scenes, heartwarming moments and funny performances. Co-starring Sofía Vergara, John Leguizamo, Scarlett Johansson, Emjay Anthony, Oliver Platt, Bobby Cannavale, Dustin Hoffman and Robert Downey Jr..
See: movie trailer
Watch/Rent or Buy now: Amazon Prime Video

Rewatching this wonderful foodie film was so rejuvenating and inspiring! I loved seeing all the mouth-watering cooking again (especially the grilled cheese sandwich scene) and loved how Carl bonds with his son Percy who joins his food truck adventure across the US. And though Percy was only 10 years old he instantly became the head of marketing because of his excellent skills of posting photos and announcements on Twitter, etc. His social media savvy resulted in huge crowds waiting for their delicious foods at the cities they arrived in and also amazed his proud dad. This is why I highly recommend this film for all foodies as well as business owners for the social media marketing tips!

Following a passion as a career can be exciting and frightening. Just remember that your passion will attract the right people to support your dream. And it could happen fast! So if you need some cinematic motivation let your passion magnetize the perfect film to inspire your courage, resilience and optimism!
