Tip#1198: The Recipe For Resilience, Perseverance & Indestructible Optimism, Part 4 – COVID-19 – This Is the End

This is Day 77 of the COVID-19 quarantine/social distancing/self-isolation here in Toronto, Canada

This week the news has been filled with a multitude of demonstrations and destruction across US cities and also in other cities around the world. Seeing these shocking images and videos on social media made me so grateful for living in Toronto. What eased my distressed mind was watching favourite comedy films and focusing on my new diet of superfoods I’ve been documenting on this blog and my social media: Instagram

As mentioned in previous posts (Tip#1196 and #1197), I am following the nutrient-dense diet from the amazing 1930’s studies by Dr. Weston Price and carried on today by Sally Fallon Morell. I highly recommend you check out their amazing work:

If I were to recommend three immediate diet changes anyone can do right now it would be these superfoods:

• Cod Liver Oil from Norway (2 tsp daily): Learn more
• Sauerkraut (raw & unpasteurized) (1 or more tbsp daily): Learn more
• Grass Fed Beef Bone Broth (1 cup daily): Learn more

There are so many exciting health benefits to each of these three nutrient-dense foods that I highly recommend you check out the links to see how you can improve your physical and mental health. Make these foods part of your daily diet and then they’ll become part of your recipe for resilience! And part of my recipe for resilience was also watching favourite comedies that always make me laugh out loud, especially if they are rude and crude! And a recent film I saw also happens to be about coping with quarantine.

This Is the End (2013)

The apocalyptic comedy horror film, is about fictionalized versions of its cast dealing with a global biblical apocalypse in Hollywood. This entertaining movie is filled with hilarious, rude and crude performances by Seth Rogan, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, and Craig Robinson. There are also many cameos of star playing version of themselves such as Michael Cera, Emma Watson, Mindy Kaling, Rihanna, Paul Rudd and Channing Tatum.

Movie fans of any of these cast members will enjoy all the self-references and jokes about their other films making this a very meta/self-conscious film! I loved seeing all the surprise cameos and how the story mirrored the current mid 2020’s quarantine of real-life and even the homemade videos of celebrities on social media. It was fun seeing these six characters strategize their food rations and cope with self-isolation by making personal documenting videos and even a homemade sequel to one of their own films, Pineapple Express!

And despite the hilarious audacity of R-rated jokes there are moments for life lessons to shine through about friendship, living selfishly verses selflessly and thinking of others first. Heart-based moments with rude/crude humour have become a trademark of Seth Rogen’s produced films and a bonus for films that can bring a lighter mood in dark times.

Times of unexpected crisis can teach each of us to create our own recipe for resilience that can include a healthier diet and motivating movies that can re-energize and re-vitalize our spirit and drive. Take small steps each day to make positive changes in your life whether it’s just one new nutritional food or watching a film to transform your low moods. These are the gifts to yourself that will fuel your perseverance and indestructible optimism!
