Tip#1197: The Recipe For Resilience, Perseverance & Indestructible Optimism, Part 3 – COVID-19 – The Biggest Little Farm

This is Day 70 of the COVID-19 quarantine/social distancing/self-isolation here in Toronto, Canada

Wonderful warmer sunshine arrived this week! It was a reflection to how good I’ve been feeling while I continued to add more nutrient-dense foods to my diet. Along with daily forkfuls of raw, unpasteurized sauerkraut, two teaspoons of cod liver oil from Norway and grass-fed butter on authentically fermented sourdough bread I made my first batch of grass-fed beef bone broth since doing it a few years ago!

I simmered the bone broth for 24 hours and my whole home smelled fantastic! And it turned out beautifully gelatinous which is from the collagen extracted from the bones. This contains the nutrients in helping re-mineralize teeth and bones, heal a leaky gut, reduce joint pain, reduce inflammation, prevent bone loss, and build healthy skin, hair, and nails. As mentioned in previous post (Tip#1196, Part 2), I am following the nutrient-dense diet from the amazing 1930’s studies by Dr. Weston Price and carried on today by Sally Fallon Morell. I highly recommend you check out their invaluable work:

Nutrient-Dense Foods I have daily:
(with recommended portions)
• Cod Liver Oil from Norway (2 tsps)
• Sourdough bread with authentic wild yeast recipe (1 slice toasted)
• Free-run eggs (1 daily)
• Grass-fed butter (1/2 tbs)
• Organ meats: chicken liver, cod liver, foi gras (once a week)
• Cheese (raw & unpasteurized) (small slice)
• Sauerkraut (raw & unpasteurized) (2 to 3 tbs)
• Honey (raw & unpasteurized)(1/4 tsp)
• Grass Fed Beef Bone Broth (1 cup)

This exciting new lifestyle and diet change inspired me to finally watch a film on my long “To Watch” list that celebrates farm fresh foods and, as I discovered, so much more that included lessons on resilience, perseverance and indestructible optimism!

The Biggest Little Farm (2018)

The documentary, The Biggest Little Farm, is about a young couple, John and Molly, who leave their old city lives behind and experience the highs and lows of rebuilding and running a 200 acres farm. This visually beautiful story is brimming with gorgeous landscapes and whimsical relationships of humans with farm animals and with other animals and nature itself.

There is so much to love about this documentary! John, Molly and their team demonstrate how plants, wildlife, livestock and humans can work together in a profound harmony despite several years of constant adversities. One example is how they deal with snail infestations ruining their fruit orchards. They discover that their ducks love eating snails so they simply let them loose in the orchard to remove the multitude of snails!

There is also a powerful message of re-vitalizing and rejuvenating the dead soil of the farmland they purchased. It emphasized what I’ve been learning about the nutrients in the soil that farm animals graze on eventually gets passed onto humans that consume their meats and dairy products. It is exciting to see all these life lessons unfold in this story of a couple that finally found a lifestyle they love and are sharing their wisdom through this film. Highly recommended!

Some films can be entertaining and also delivery important life lessons that can potentially change your life for the better. Some of them can also provide cinematic role models of resilience, perseverance and indestructible optimism to inspire you through difficult times and unexpected crisis. Find a film today to re-vitalize your inner strengths and drive!
