Tip#587: If You Could Talk To Your Younger Self What Would You Say? - Looper

If you could talk to your younger self what would you say? Bruce Willis's character in Disney's The Kid gets to do that. This is a favourite film of mine because it represents a profound concept that we can heal our current issues by going back in time and teaching our younger selves how to face the challenge or trauma that caused the issue in the first place. Willis plays another character in the film Looper and gets the chance to talk to his younger self again.

Looper (2012)

The science fiction action movie Looper is about 25 year old Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who encounters his future self (Bruce Willis). The year is 2044 and Joe's job is to exterminate and dispose of criminals sent back in time from the future. When his future self is sent back to him, the future Joe fights back and escapes death. What unfolds is a mind-bending, thought-provoking story about the need to alter timelines from two different perspectives.

There is a fascinating scene where future Joe faces younger Joe in a diner. With 30 years of life experiences he does his best to tell his younger self what he needs to do to change the dire future he will eventually face. The irony is that younger Joe doesn't want to change anything and only thinks about his own needs. Without saying anymore about the film, this scene will make you think about what you would do if you got to speak to your younger self.

You may not be able to time travel in the physical but you can at least start having healing discussions with your younger self. Anytime you get a hurtful memory flash imagine it is your voice somewhere from the past needing help. Put your hand on your heart and say...

"I hear you. I am here. You are not alone. Everything will be okay. I love you."

If you believe in the power of your own mind this action of talking to your past will comfort your younger self AND alter your present challenges for the better. Open your imagination today to this exciting possibility!

Tip#585: Learning from James Bond - Casino Royale

This past weekend up north I was helping clear forestland and realized afterwards it was a healing for me (see tip#584). It was a powerful metaphor for CLEARING my inner blocks. It also gave me a chance to re-activate some testosterone and be physically active which has been lacking in my life. I was reminded that this primal energy is what's behind the drive and power behind the movie hero James Bond.

I have a friend I met on social media currently living in Japan whose mission is to show people motivating messages from James Bond. Feature Film Writer, Director and Speaker, Paul Kyriazi is the author of the book How to Live the James Bond Lifestyle. Paul has been helping motivate me to activate my inner Bond that will fuel my focus, tenacity and perseverance in overcoming any life challenge. And as a cinematic role model my favourite Bond at the moment is Daniel Craig from Casino Royale.

More on Paul Kyriazi and his book: click here
Listen to a great interview: click here

Casino Royale (2006)

The action adventure film Casino Royale is the 21st feature in the James Bond film series and is a reboot establishing a new timeline with Daniel Craig playing Bond. In the story, Bond has just received his 007 status and delivers the grittiest version of this cinematic icon. Bond is not only extremely physical in his fight scenes but also excellent in using his wits against villain Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelsen) in a high-stakes poker tournament at the Casino Royale in Montenegro.

For me this film and actor helps me tap into inner strengths and helps me visualize places I would love to visit around the world like the Bahamas and Lake Como in Italy. Other motivational messages include…

• Maintain an optimistic mindset in difficult times
• Be adaptable to challenges
• Activate hidden strengths, perseverance and drive
• Creative visualization with luxury lifestyles and exotic travel destinations
• Dressing in style and confidence

If you have favourite movie heroes then perhaps you already have a cinematic role model. Be a conscious movie watcher and identify the strengths of the movie heroes you admire. Be excited knowing that every time you watch them you are actually activating your inner strengths and potential!

Tip#584: Cultivate Friendships for Rain of Shine - City Slickers

I just got back from another rejuvenating weekend trip up north with my camping buddies (see tip#545). This time it was to help a friend clear the forestland he owns for a new home he is putting there. For three days it rained off and on and yet we still loved being there to support a friend who needed our help. And though we don’t see each other often we are always very supportive of each other no matter what challenges any of us go through.

City Slickers (1991)

The comedy film City Slickers is about Mitch (Billy Crystal) going through a midlife crisis while his two best friends Phil (Daniel Stern) and Ed (Bruno Kirby) are also having life challenges of their own. Together they embark on a humorous two-week cattle drive vacation experience. While in this Southwestern environment they are able to have fresh, new perspectives for solving their life challenges.

With the help of Mitch’s friends he finds a new inner strength and a more enthusiastic purpose in his life and family. His outdoor experience reminds me of how fantastic it is to get together with my camping buddies. We always share lots of laughter, great food and drink, helpful advice and entertaining stories rain or shine while surrounded by lush trees and shimmering waters! And when I return home I am always filled with inspiration and zest for resuming life in the big city.

Friendships make the ups and downs of life so much more enjoyable. Do your best to cultivate long term friendships full of open communication AND unconditional support and love. Through rain or shine these friendships are the kind that will always empower you to be your best!

Tip#582: Treasure Every Gift in Life – Seeking a Friend for the End of the World

Positivity & Motivation Award

Last week I was thrilled to find out that my movie blog won a Positivity & Motivation Award from the KwikMed organization. And I loved what was written about my blog, "…this site is quirky to say the least, but also well put together with pleasing graphics and a strong writing style. Intriguing."

New Magazine Column: Film Talk

At the same time my first article for my new column Film Talk was published in The Local Biz Magazine. It was a joy to write and covers the Fall Movie Season. I am excited because now more people can share in my passion for movies! Read the article on page 15 in the magazine: click here

With these recent successes AND the gifts that came to me during the Toronto Film Festival last week (see tip#581) I truly FEEL blessed. And I've learned to always treasure each and every gift I receive in my life.

Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (2012)

The comedy drama film, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World is about a man named Dodge (Steve Carell) and his neighbor Penny (Keira Knightley) who are dealing with an impending asteroid collision with the Earth. Dodge wants to help Penny get home to England while Penny wants to help Dodge reunite with his true love. Along the way they meet a myriad of colourful characters on their humorous road trip.

As with most "end of the world" stories the idea of what you value most comes up. In the film you see that Penny treasures her old vinyl records while Dodge treasures the harmonica his father gave him as a child. In the end it is relationships with someone special that comes up on top. Movies like this can inspire you to live life to the fullest by recognizing what is truly important to you.

When special situations come into your life do your best to embrace the moment and recognize it as a gift. Even if you pause and just say, "THANK YOU!" to the universe or to God is a way of celebrating the gift you just received. Today you are going to receive a gift! Remember to celebrate it!

Tip#581: Remember the Magic of Cinema, Part 1 – The Artist

My experience this year at the Toronto International Film Festival has been magical. All the screenings I attended were because of the generosity of several good friends. Last week I saw the world premiere of the incredible Cloud Atlas (see tip#578) and yesterday I saw the Greek film, God Loves Caviar which I highly recommend when it gets released in theatres. See: movie trailer

In celebration of the TIFF Film Festival I facilitated a screening and discussion of the Academy award-winning movie The Artist for my client, St. Andrew's United Church. Most of the audience saw it for the first time and were very enthusiastic and touched by this wonderful, silent film. For me, the overflowing emotion and optimism I felt from the movie represented the kind of magic I felt at the Film Festival!

The Artist (2011)

The romantic comedy-drama, The Artist is in the style of a black and white silent movie. It is about a silent film star George Valentin (Jean Dujardin) who resists the changing era of cinema with the introduction of talking films. Along the way George meets rising film star, Peppy Miller (Bérénice Bejo) and they develop a special, loving friendship.

It's best you don't know any more before you see this fantastic movie. This is one film I HIGHLY recommend for when you are feeling down. It is filled with life! It represents the magic of cinema AND it is filled with motivational messages you can apply into your life.

Motivational Messages:
• Learn to adapt to unexpected life and career changes
• Embrace the supportive power of friendship
• Maintain an optimistic mindset in difficult times
• Recognize your hidden strengths and talents
• Remember the re-energizing magic of cinema

Seeing movies is a powerful experience especially when you need to feel uplifted. Look through your favourite titles and identify why they make you feel good. And seek out new titles you can add to your "motivational resources" for whenever you need to feel re-energized in your life, career or workplace. Cinema is more than entertainment. It is healing magic!

Tip#579: Visualize the Exciting Lifestyle You Desire - Something’s Gotta Give

I am so happy and grateful for all the abundance overflowing to me recently! I've been experiencing this through delicious dining I've been introduced to, complimentary tickets to the magnificent Princess of Wales Theatre screenings at the Toronto International Film Festival (see tip#578), AND the wealth of wisdom received from my 3 weekly meetings with experts in their fields.

Patrick Bizindavyi (Business Coach), Robin Noble (Luxury Travel Specialist & Wellness Guide) and Carol Roberts (Marketing & Business Development Consultant) have all been helping me remember AND embrace my inner richness, greatness and preeminence. Carol, a fellow movie lover, highly recommended a film that is helping me return to a richer mindset and lifestyle I once had. And joyfully this film has become an exciting creative visualization tool (see tip#568) for the delicious lifestyle that's been manifesting!

Something's Gotta Give (2003)

The romantic comedy Something's Gotta Give is about Harry (Jack Nicholson), a wealthy 60-something playboy who falls for Erica (Diane Keaton), a successful playwright and mother of a young woman he's dating (Amanda Peet). Though their personalities clash at first Harry and Erica develop a strong friendship and love. There are many humorous scenes as well as powerful messages about living life to the fullest and embracing old age.

What inspired me most was how visually exciting all the scenes were of their opulent lifestyles. I loved all the dining scenes whether it was in Erica's beautiful Hamptons beach house or the mouth-watering meals shown in the Parisian restaurant in France! I also loved that they each had personal assistants for their professions. I used to have a general manager in my previous illustration business and this movie has empowered my KNOWING that I will have this exciting lifestyle again! It all starts with BELIEVING your inner richness and overflowing abundance.

Creative visualization is a powerful tool for the lifestyle you desire. First you have to BELIEVE you are worthy and deserving of what you want. Then find movies, images and real-life examples to help you VISUALIZE what you want. You are already capable of manifesting the lifestyle you desire! Just embrace your inner richness now!

Tip#578: Everything is Connected, Part 1 - Manny the Movie Guy - Cloud Atlas

Two amazing events just happened on the first Saturday of the Toronto International Film Festival. First, I got to finally meet my Facebook friend Manny Dela Rosa a.k.a. Manny the Movie Guy who was in town doing interviews for his Emmy award-winning show! I was so thrilled to finally meet the man who has inspired me during the past 2 years of challenging times. Manny was just as fun and full of life as he is when interviewing Hollywood movie stars!

Manny is an inspiration to me because he too has a passion for movies and has a fulfilling job revolving around it. He is also from the Philippines like me! It was wonderfully surreal having dinner with him and I was able to share how his show and his Facebook posts inspire me to move forward with my dreams. See Manny the Movie Guy Show: click here

My second amazing event occurred 1/2 hour afterwards where my dream of getting a ticket to the world premiere of Cloud Atlas came true!

Cloud Atlas (2012)

The official synopsis for the movie Cloud Atlas describes the film as an epic story of humankind in which the actions and consequences of our lives impact one another throughout the past, present and future as one soul is shaped from a murderer into a savior and a single act of kindness ripples out for centuries to inspire a revolution. Everything is connected as the poster says.

As of this writing the film doesn't hit theatres until October 26th so I will be brief on movie details and be more overflowing with my deep, profound enthusiasm for this multi-level epic. There are six interweaving story lines in the past, present and future that include stars such as, Tom Hanks, Halle Berry and Jim Broadbent that not only play different characters but different ethnicities AND genders! The unique style of storytelling has already been called "quantum narrative" and I love that term!

See short trailer: click here
See long trailer: click here

The makers of The Matrix trilogy, the Wachowskis, have created a mind blowing, thought-provoking, spiritual and ambitious cinematic experience that was further enhanced by seeing it at the world premiere. All the stars came out on stage prior to the screening along with the Wachowskis and the 3rd director Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run). It was absolutely thrilling just being there! And how I got there is another amazing story to be shared in the near future!

A passion for cinema can bring like-minded people together who just want to share a love for movies with each other. And having a deep cinematic experience can transform your mind and even your life whenever you allow it to touch your heart. Celebrate these soulful connections when you can! Share your passion with someone today!

Tip#576: Replay a Happy Memory, Part 1 - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

The term Neural Reconditioning comes from the amazing book I mentioned in tip#484 called The Answer by John Assaraf. It is exactly what I've been learning to help transform the limiting beliefs in my life. My learning continued through two other books called The Abundance Book and Creative Visualization. (see tips #568, #571, #572, #573, #575)

As in the previous tip#575 I have another success story relating to Neural Reconditioning. I had been tapping into the happy memories of illustration clients I loved working with years ago. The goal was to manifest more of those enjoyable relationships now. Within a day I was amazed to suddenly see one of those great clients for the first time in years on the same subway train I was on! I was so stunned that I just sat there in awe! For me, this was more proof that creative visualization is working. (see tip#572 for another stunning subway encounter)

One of the exciting keys of Neural Reconditioning is to tap into a memory of achievements or successes you've experienced in the past and replay it in your mind. You are to FEEL all the sights, sounds, tastes, smells and sensations of that happy moment. Combine that with the 3 steps of meditation, visualization and affirmations and you become a powerful magnet for manifesting similar experiences into your life! You just have to find that happy memory first.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)

The fantasy film Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is the third in the movie series and contains a powerful message of the positive results of tapping into a happy memory. Harry learns a powerful spell to face one's darkest fears called "Expecto Petronum". It is the basis for creative visualization that many Olympic medalists and successful business people apply to achieving success.

Harry is asked to think of a happy, powerful memory that then becomes the fuel to create a shield of intense light that fends off fear. When he is successful in staying focused he is able to fend off horrifying creatures called Dementors. Just like Harry, you can tap into a positive thought, feeling or passion. And when you FEEL that positive memory with all your senses it will fuel you to persevere through dark times. Take it a step further and then you can start manifesting your dreams and goals!

You have a treasure full of happy memories inside you waiting to be remembered and turned into light! Replay one of those memories today and FEEL how great it FEELS!

Tip#575: Friendships that Feel Good – Grown Ups

It feels so good to be surrounded by friends that radiate love! I recently went to a friend's intimate birthday dinner on a quiet neighborhood patio restaurant and was so surprised to see friends I hadn't seen in years. I stood there in awe as they each welcomed me with loving eyes and big smiles. The warmth I felt from them all had touched my heart deeply.

Synchronistically, I had been writing about the exciting period of my life when we first met in my creative visualization affirmation exercises (see tip#568). By tapping into the thoughts and feelings of what you want to manifest it then attracts that same energy into the physical some how. So I believe seeing these friends was so magical AND more proof of what I am learning about creative visualization!

Grown Ups (2010)

The comedy Grown Ups is about a group of five childhood friends that come together 30 years later for the funeral of their beloved basketball coach. This is an Adam Sandler film so it is full of raunchy humour, great music from the 70's and 80's and a few life lessons here and there. The five grown up friends all consist of Sandler's real-life friends, Rob Schneider, David Spade, Chris Rock and Kevin James. See: movie trailer

I am a big fan of Adam Sandler movies and I love that he has a career where he can bring in his real-life friends. They always look like they are having so much fun! And some how, despite negative reviews of his films, Sandler still attracts big stars to appear in his movies like Jack Nicholson in Anger Management, Christopher Walken in Click and Johnny Depp and Al Pacino in Jack and Jill. I'm not sure if these stars are friends or not but Sandler's movies always reminds me of how fun it would be to include my friends into my career somehow!

Friendships can come and go and hopefully you can appreciate the feel good feelings when you have them. And if you are feeling alone or separate then tap into the uplifting thoughts and feelings of past relationships that were loving and supportive. That way you become a magnet and you just may attract those same friends back into your life OR attract new ones with the same positive energies!
