Tip#1260: The Recipe For Resilience, Part 66 – Battlestar Galactica 2003

This is Day 559 of the COVID-19 pandemic here in Toronto, Canada.

Mystical events have been happening to me for several decades and have inspired me to document many of them on this movie blog and on my Instagram channel. Some are little things like needing large kitchen knives and then suddenly finding a box of them for free on someone’s lawn after a yard sale. Or meeting strangers at the exact time who had the exact information or items I needed during a crisis.

Another example was having a strong feeling to rewatch the Battlestar Galactica remake series. At first I wanted to purchase all the four seasons in BluRay box sets. But my intuition told me to wait and weeks later I was shopping at a Value Village Thrift Store and found three of the box sets in excellent condition and at a fraction of the price!

I got chills at that moment and I could feel deep inside me that something unseen and mystical had happened. Others may say it's just a coincidence but I really felt these BluRay box sets were placed there for me to find. It reminds me of what I’m learning about the Chinese healing practice of Qigong (see tip#1259) which The Force from Star Wars is related to.  I felt this series was going to be a fantastic teaching tool for me on many levels and it was!

Battlestar Galactica (2003)

The science fiction drama series, Battlestar Galactica, is a remake from the 70’s about the human survivors of a war escaping from machine beings called Cylons via a ragtag fleet of civilian space ships led by the military ship Battlestar Galactica. This gritty, emotional and highly entertaining 4 season series features a fantastic cast that includes Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Jamie Bamber, James Callis, Tricia Helfer, and Grace Park.

I absolutely love SCI FI shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation and yet Battlestar Galactica excells as brilliant SCI FI grounded in realism when coping with war, trauma and depression. Add to this are the amazing space battles, stunning visual effects and heartfelt relationships. This series also shines with rich examples of leadership, teamwork, resilience, perseverance and indestructible optimism.

What is also featured are thought provoking concepts on what angels and God is. The mythology of this series touched me deeply because it mirrored my belief in extraordinary, mystical, magical or divine occurrences that cannot easily be explained. And yet these are very real in my life and perhaps in yours too.

Believing in the magic of synchronicities or of divine, mystical events is a huge step in believing the impossible is possible. It’s a mindset that allows us to see hidden solutions to overwhelming problems we are hit with. Find a TV series or movie that inspires you to expand your thoughts on what is possible today!

Tip#1259: The Recipe For Resilience, Part 65 – Super Me

This is Day 552 of the COVID-19 pandemic here in Toronto, Canada.

I’ve noticed interesting synchronicities with Chinese themes ever since I saw the Shang-Chi movie on opening day two weeks ago. On one day I was feeling a little low a friend sent a link to a Qigong practice to help me cope. It reminded me I used to do these exercises daily many years ago to help me deal with depression.

Qigong (qi gong, chi kung, chi 'ung, or chi gung) is a system of coordinated body-posture and movement, breathing and meditation used for the purposes of health, spirituality, and martial-arts training. It’s roots in ancient Chinese culture date back more than 4,000 years.

See: Spring Forest Qigong Everyday 30 min.

And at a Value Village thrift store I found an amazing vintage shirt with an ornate martial arts design on the back. It was a dragon with 5 Claws and it represents a symbol of power reserved for emperors in many Chinese dynasties. I like to think this shirt has magical, empowering qualities when I wear it!

I was then recommended by a friend to see a wild Chinese fantasy film on Netflix. He mentioned some scenes related to food so I was immediately hooked! I soon discovered that the movie had a deeper, healing message for me. It also continued the themes I wrote about in my previous post on taking full responsibility for creating your reality.

Super Me (2019)

The fantasy drama comedy film, Super Me, is about Sang Yu (Darren Wang) a struggling screenwriter discovering he has a special power to bring antiques and other valuables from his dreams into reality. This entertaining and visually stunning movie also stars Song Jia, Bingkun Cao and Shih-Chieh King.

Watch/Rent or Buy now: Amazon Prime Video

I watched this film twice because it had some weird moments and then the second viewing made more sense. The surreal dreams and scenes of becoming rich were fun while seeing Sang deal with depression and struggling to eat were heartfelt. There are also important life lessons about following your dream and the benefits and consequences of having instant success.

What was fascinating are Freudian elements introduced in the story as deeper life lessons. In basic terms, Freud’s theory of the id, ego, and superego is that the id is our instincts, our basic desires. The ego is what stops us from going after our every whim and desire. The superego is the moral standard, criticism, or societal norms which we all follow. The movie hero faces all these aspects of himself and I found these themes a mirror for what I needed to balance or rebalance in my life.

Synchronicities can be ways the universe is helping you keep your id, ego and superego in check. Movie heroes can also be mirrors for the decisions you make that create successes or consequences. Be a little more aware of the magical messages you receive today!

Tip#1258: The Recipe For Resilience, Part 64 – Source Code

This is Day 545 of the COVID-19 pandemic here in Toronto, Canada.

This past week was filled with cool synchronicities of films I thought about that connected with my current interest on the Hawaiian healing process of Ho’oponopono I wrote about in recent posts (Read more: Tip#1257). Movies like Vanilla Sky starring Tom Cruise came up about waking up and taking control and 100% responsibility of every aspect of our life which was the core theme of Ho’oponopono.

It’s about believing that every thing you experience, good or bad, was actually created by you and so you have the power to change it. This was further reinforced in my mind with an exciting trailer for a new, fourth Matrix movie released this week. The Matrix Resurrection scenes continued the theme of waking up from a trapped life and taking control of your reality. See: trailer

Ho’oponopono phrases:
• I’m sorry
• Please forgive me
• I love you
• Thank you

I wanted to find a movie to further inspire me with how Ho’oponopono could be used to help break myself out of the “Groundhog Day loop” I’m still in. After all I created this loop in the first place. So after repeating the four phrases, a Sci Fi film came to mind and I watched it again with great enthusiasm!

Source Code (2011)

The science-fiction action thriller film, Source Code, is about U.S. Army Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) waking up over and over again in someone else's body and discovers he's part of an experimental government program to find the bomber of a commuter train. This entertaining and very engaging movie has “Groundhog Day” feel to it and stars Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga and Jeffrey Wright.

Watch/Rent or Buy now: Amazon Prime Video

It’s been years since I saw this film and seeing it again really inspired me in believing I could break free of my life traps just like the hero does in this film. He overcomes his own “Groundhog Day loop”. He demonstrated great courage, perseverance, resilience and even an altruistic spirit to help others after he had solved his assigned problem. I highly recommend this film to motivate you to find solutions to your loops in life.

It takes a lot of courage to take 100% responsibility of everything that happens in your life. Some solutions may seem really strange and impossible and yet if what you’ve been doing hasn’t been helping then you have nothing to lose but to try something new. Find a movie hero today to help open your mind and recreate a new, happier reality!

Tip#1257: The Recipe For Resilience, Part 63 – Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

This is Day 538 of the COVID-19 pandemic here in Toronto, Canada.

This week I was excited to design a new series of graphics to promote my Content Creator services! They show fun examples of my work with various film and food related clients and my goal is to attract new, awesome clients for the next chapter of my life and career.

At the same time, designing these examples reminded me of certain clients that treated me badly. That’s when I knew these were old, emotional blocks stuck inside me and needed clearing in order to move forward. These were painful memories that anyone could relate to and still ruminating of times someone had been mean and hurtful to them.

So I’ve been putting into practice the life coaching tips from Steffi Black Coaching I mentioned in the previous blog post about doing “What If?” statements. She also reminded me of the Hawaiian self-love affirmations of Ho’oponopono: “I’m sorry, Please forgive me, Thank you, I love you”.

Read more: Tip#884
Read more: Ho’oponopono: How to practice it in 4 simple steps

This process is about taking responsibility for everything that’s happened, sending yourself more compassion as well as sending love to the person that hurt you by saying their name with the four affirmations. All these healing practices are about healing my past and inner child and were synchronistically mirrored in a new film I just saw!

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)

The superhero, action film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is about Shaun/Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) who is forced to confront his childhood traumas and his immortal father, Xu Wenwu's (Tony Leung) leader of the Ten Rings organization. This highly entertaining movie is filled with thrilling fight scenes, special effects, mythical creatures and strong performances by Liu and Leung as well as Awkwafina, Meng'er Zhang, Fala Chen, Florian Munteanu, Benedict Wong, Michelle Yeoh, Ben Kingsley, and Tony Leung.
See: movie trailer
Watch/Rent or Buy now: Amazon Prime Video

I was so blown away with how much I loved this movie! The script, tone, pacing, characters and overall cinematic experience was so satisfying. I also believe the abundant Asian representation will have a positive affect as role models in our global culture. I was also moved by many emotional moments that mirrored my own relationship with dad growing up and memories I know I need to heal. The movie hero would be an inspiration for me with his courage and perseverance.

One fight scene I loved was one that transformed into a dance. The profound beauty of this conflict/partnership was a reminder that all my own past conflicts with clients or people were a necessary part of my growing as a person. They were playing a role for me to learn from and ultimately have to let go of.

We could choose to dwell on the painful memories of the past. Or we could choose to see them from a higher perspective and take responsibility for the thoughts and feelings ruminating in our minds. Find a film today with a movie hero that mirrors your experiences. Let them inspire your own inner strengths and resilience to heal and move forward!
