Tip#1236: The Recipe For Resilience, Perseverance & Indestructible Optimism, Part 42 – Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind

This is Day 341 of the COVID-19 pandemic here in Toronto, Canada.

An amazing synchronicity happened this week that blew my mind! I received a shiny gold envelope from a friend and even though I knew what was inside a voice inside me said not to open it until the next day. The next day I had a chat with a friend who was enthusiastic about a new movie he saw called Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind. This conversation re-ignited my interest in the existence of alien life which I’ve been fascinated with since I was a kid. In fact, my favourite film growing up was Close Encounters of the Third Kind!

Right after this conversation it felt it was time to open up the gold envelope. Inside was an autographed trading card from my actress friend Avaah Blackwell of her alien character Osnullus, who is part of the bridge crew on Star Trek: Discovery. First, as a Star Trek nerd, I was thrilled to receive this fantastic gift! Secondly I laughed at the profound timing of seeing this image of an alien and my discussion about alien contact with my friend!

This all prompted me to watch the film. And it blew my mind even further! It reminded me that movies with answers to life always arrive at the right time for me.

Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind (2020)

The documentary film, Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind, presents the most controversial information ever released to the public featuring Dr. Steven Greer, ufologist and retired traumatologist who founded the Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence and the Disclosure Project. This mesmerizing movie shows fascinating footage of ufo’s from around the world while bringing up many thought provoking insights about the power of our minds and thought.

I’ve always believed in life on other planets so for me the amazing footage in this documentary was intriguing. What surprised me was all the other material that reflected my own studies of positive thinking and creative visualization for manifesting the life we want. I felt the deeper message of this film was to remind us about the power of meditation and focused thoughts. They even featured the beautiful photography of Dr. Emoto of ice crystals after they had been subjected to positive and negative words and thoughts like “Hope” or “You disgust me”.

I highly recommend seeing this film as entertainment first. And if you happened to be inspired by what it presents then hopefully that brings light to whatever life challenges you are having right now. For me, this film, my conversation with my friend and receiving that Star Trek alien card were all connected through the magic of synchronicity.

Synchronicity is about recognizing coincidences as something much more meaningful in our lives in that moment. It’s about trusting in the unknown and that your gut and intuition is talking to you providing answers you’ve been seeking. You just have to be open to hearing it. So be open today for some magical connections that could lead you down an exciting and unexpected path!

Tip#1235: The Recipe For Resilience, Perseverance & Indestructible Optimism, Part 41 – Top Secret! – Real Genius

This is Day 334 of the COVID-19 pandemic here in Toronto, Canada.

I’ve been feeling re-energized and rejuvenated leading my seasonal depression to be more stable thanks to a number of nutritional changes to my diet. For the past two weeks I’ve been making delicious blueberry smoothies daily which are filled with brain foods/super food ingredients like blueberries, almond meal and raw ginger.

I also continue to research bottled mineral-rich waters and the historical healing claims of brands such as San Pellegrino and Fiuggi. I’ve also started taking Sunwarrior Liquid Light that is bursting with nutrients missing from foods because of mineral depleted soil.

Synchronistically I was then recommended to see Down to Earth with Zac Efron, Season 1, Episode 2 featuring Anna Kendrick and water sommelier Martin Reise which was brimming with insights about what the healthiest bottle waters are.

Cinematic medicine, in the form of comedy films from the 80’s, have also been re-energizing me through my winter blues. Two movies happened to star Val Kilmer and I’ve loved them since they were first released. I was so happy they still hold up 40 years later. Laughter can be an amazing energy elixir!

Top Secret! (1984)

The comedy film, Top Secret!, is a parody of WWII spy movies and 60’s musicals starring Elvis Presley. It’s about an American rock and roll singer Nick Rivers (Val Kilmer) becomes involved in a Resistance plot to rescue a scientist imprisoned in East Germany. Also starring Hillary Flammond (Lucy Gutteridge) alongside a supporting cast featuring Omar Sharif, Peter Cushing, Michael Gough, and Jeremy Kemp.

This creatively witty parody comes from the creators of Airplane! and The Naked Gun film series and still makes me laugh decades later. Some of the comedy is so inventive and film lovers will really appreciate some of the amazing sight gags and hilarious weirdness of some of the scenes. This was also Kilmer’s first movie role and he sings all the Elvis-style songs.

Real Genius (1985)

The comedy film, Real Genius, is about genius Chris Knight (Val Kilmer) in his senior year working on a chemical laser with new young prodigy Mitch Taylor (Gabriel Jarret). This highly entertaining and funny film has a wonderful cast that also includes William Atherton, Michelle Meyrink and Robert Prescott.

This film is so much fun and the cast is note-perfect! I loved all the interactions and also seeing how genius minds can be brilliant, inventive, playful and silly all at the same time. There is also something heartwarming of how each of these quirky, eccentric geniuses look out for each other. And seeing this also injects a sense of joy into my spirit! Highly recommend!

When you feel the need to rejuvenate just remember that simple diet changes can help feed your brain and body in a positive, uplifting way. Nutrient rich waters and food can make a difference in your focus and resilience. Add to that the re-energizing power of cinematic medicine and you’ll be feeling re-vitalized in no time!

Tip#1234: The Recipe For Resilience, Perseverance & Indestructible Optimism, Part 40 – Cinderella 2015

This is Day 327 of the COVID-19 pandemic here in Toronto, Canada.

One of the silver linings of spending time alone in lockdown during this long pandemic was learning to be kinder to myself. Showing myself kindness and more self-love has helped me feel more worthy and deserving of the joys this world has to offer. And, in turn, I am more rejuvenated to extend kindness and joy to others!

Random acts of kindness to myself helped me say yes to treats that I normally would’ve talked myself out of having such as ordering a whole Chinese BBQ duck or a Popeye’s delicious chicken sandwich. I also treated myself over these many months with high quality foods like farm fresh pastured eggs, cod liver oil from Norway and lots of delicious, raw, unpasteurized cheeses from France!

These high quality foods were expensive and would have been the reason not to get them but my acts of self-kindness helped increase my self-worth and know in my heart that “I AM WORTH IT!”. And I know that this personal achievement was a result of acknowledging and healing childhood bullying. Thanks to years of empowering group therapy I learned that bullying had sabotaged my self-worth and self-esteem.

I am grateful that I continue to heal a little more each day thanks to my therapy tools such as daily affirmations and movie therapy. And this theme of kindness popped up unexpectedly in a Disney film that I recently saw. It also had the theme of bullying and how to stay resilient!

Cinderella (2015)

The romantic fantasy film, Cinderella, is based on the folk tale and Walt Disney's 1950 animated film of the same name. It’s about Cinderella (Lily James) dealing with multiple adversities in life including her wicked stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and how she finds love with a prince (Richard Madden). This wonderful live action adaptation is filled with magical scenes, outstanding, rich costumes and memorable performances by the cast that also include Stellan Skarsgård, Holliday Grainger, Derek Jacobi, and Helena Bonham Carter.

This is one of those movies that I felt magically guided to seeing years after it’s release to lift me up during seasonal, winter depression. It came at a perfect time to remind me of important life lessons. These lessons were about maintaining courage and kindness no matter what happens in life. And seeing Cinderella subjected to such cruelty and bullying by her stepmother and stepsisters was, at times, difficult to watch. I knew it was because it was mirroring my own childhood pain and helping me face my own unresolved issues.

At the same time, I was inspired by Cinderella’s amazing resilience and perseverance and how she maintained her courage and kindness taught to her by her parents. She mirrored my own inner strengths! She has become a new cinematic role model for me because of her shining inner strengths that no one could sabotage!

Movie heroes have the magical ability to speak to your heart and encourage you to be strong in difficult times. They can remind you to maintain confidence in yourself and to practice kindness in the face of cruelty and hopelessness. Give yourself an act of kindness today and feel revitalized and empowered to be your best, shining self!
