Ever since I saw the E-motion documentary (see tip#836) I have been feeling excited about finally solving my mental health and physical health issues. And I want to document what I'm learning on this blog in case you resonate with the resources, tools and methods that work for me. You can see the first 25 minutes of E-motion now: click here
One of people featured in E-motion that resonated with me deeply was Dr. Bradley Nelson where he talked about how trapped emotions in our bodies are the root cause for physical symptoms and diseases. He also talked about the Heart-Wall that is an energy field around one’s heart that contains unresolved or painful emotions from the past. I was so drawn to learning more that I found a one-hour video presentation of Dr. Nelson explaining more about his Emotion Code and the Heart-Wall. He also shares the science behind the energy frequencies generated by the heart. See: Everything You Need to Know About the Heart-Wall
That video inspired me to read Dr. Nelson’s best selling book The Emotion Code and was deeply moved by his generosity in offering it free as a PDF and audiobook (click here). This alternative healing information may seem like fantasy to some people but I believe in this. Through his studies of ancient medical practice and modern quantum physics, Dr. Nelson developed The Emotion Code to help clear negative energy that become trapped in the body during intense emotional events.
I felt my mind was being activated with excitement over what I was learning. In fact all this information was reminding me of one of my favourite movies and I watched it again recently and had a new AHA moment that it was all about trapped emotions!
Pleasantville (1998)
The fantasy comedy-drama film, Pleasantville, is about what happens when two modern day teenage siblings David/Bud (Tobey Maguire) and Jennifer/Mary Sue (Reese Witherspoon) are magically transported into a black & white 50’s sitcom called Pleasantville. What unravels is a visually stunning transformation of characters and settings into a world of colour. See: movie trailer
This amazing movie has so many layers of social commentary and life lessons that it's on my top 5 favourite movies of all time. And yet after seeing the E-motion movie and reading the Emotion Code book did I fully recognize that trapped emotions was a core message of Pleasantville. When the black & white characters release a hidden or stuck emotion they turn to full colour! This includes the modern day siblings. The message is that releasing trapped emotions can lead to a whole new world of wonders AND a more enjoyable quality of living!
Activate the power of your mind to find the answers and resources you seek in life. There are many different roads towards healing and recovery. Choose the path that you resonate with even if others do not believe in it. And be inspired by movies that can show you how to free yourself of the trapped emotions holding you back!

Tip#838: The Power of Acknowledgement, Part 2 – Mental Health in the Workplace - What Women Want
I recently attended the memorial for an old friend and colleague where I reconnected with other people I hadn’t seen in years. One friend was from high school and when I opened up about my recent challenges with depression he felt at ease to share his own experiences. We both really appreciated that we could acknowledge one another’s mental health struggles in a compassionate way.
Thankfully attitudes in the workplace have been increasing to focus more on mental health awareness. Online articles, surveys and even social media like Twitter are regularly posting stats of how mental health is costing businesses billions per year. Here’s a Twitter example from Mood Disorders Society of Canada: Did u know that #mentalillness in the workplace costs #businesses over $20 billion per year? http://goo.gl/XpwBTI
Anthony Folan, President of Integral HR Solutions Inc. recently published a short yet effective article on LinkedIn that says, “From an awareness standpoint, organizations must realize that they have a duty to accommodate employees that are suffering from mental illness.” See article: Mental Health in the Workplace
Acknowledgement is an important step for both employees and employers for understanding and recognizing mental health on a personal level AND that it ultimately builds supportive team spirit in the workplace. Examples of this can even be seen in the movies.
What Women Want (2000)
The romantic comedy film, What Women Want, is about what happens when a chauvinistic advertising executive/alpha male accidentally acquires the gift of hearing women’s thoughts. Nick Marshall (Mel Gibson) at first uses this new ability for selfish reasons but soon develops a more compassionate attitude and a team spirit focus. There are many hilarious scenes and also brilliant results like the effective Nike ad campaign Nick brainstorms with newly appointed executive Darcy McGuire (Helen Hunt). See: movie trailer
A key sub-plot that demonstrates the power of acknowledgement with mental health involves an introverted, unhappy file assistant (Judy Greer) who Nick previously ignores at work. But as he finally looks at her and hears her thoughts she reveals her depression and thoughts of death. Nick’s new skills of observation, understanding and compassion leads him to helping her feel acknowledged and more enthusiastic in their workplace.
Films can be fantastic tools for creative visualization when it comes to showing examples of how movie characters develop their awareness for the well being of people around them. Be inspired to develop your own abilities to acknowledge others more effectively in the workplace and in life. Acknowledgement can empower individuals and lead to a stronger work environment!

Tip#837: Be Open to Magical Messages, Part 2 – Song of the Sea
So many magical messages have been coming to me over the past few weeks. I believe this is the result of my own creative visualization techniques I’ve been applying to gain answers for improving my mental health and other challenges. One of those messages was to watch the E-motion documentary I wrote about in previous tip#836. The biggest message I learned from this film was that trapped emotions in my body and subconscious are secretly sabotaging areas of my life, work AND the root cause of depression periods.
Within days of first watching the E-motion movie I began doing new breathing exercises to re-activate brain chemistry with Matthew Gardner, Conflict Resolution Activator with Basix Brain Training PRO. We met at a recent motivational talk I gave and felt a connection that led to more magical messages he gave me for clearing my internal blocks. That then led to me connecting with his colleague, Julian Nalani Love, CEO and Founder of Basix Brain Training PRO via Facebook.
Julian than invited me to his seminar where, synchronistically, it was the same message I’d been receiving about clearing/transforming trapped emotions or memories! I learned more about the powerful re-energizing “G Breath” techniques as well as recognizing a higher, more uplifting purpose of my negative memories and emotions. That event felt like a dream come true and almost fantasy-like! Even the people I met were like-minded and passionate about quantum physics, personal growth and Sci Fi movies like me! Then to top off the week I was guided to watch a fantastic new animated film!
Song of the Sea (2014)
The Irish animated fantasy film, Song of the Sea, is about two young siblings who embark on a fantastic journey across a fading world of ancient legend and magic. Along the way Ben (David Rawle) discovers his mute sister Saoirse (Lucy O’Connell) is a Selkie, a mythological being that lives as a human on land and as a seal underwater. This blissful, heartwarming film is one of the most visually rich and magical stories I’ve ever seen! Every character, scenery and moment seemed to glow and vibrate on an unearthly level. Fantastic music soundtrack too that will take you to another world. See: movie trailer
Once again I received a magical message from a scene involving Macha the Owl Witch (Fionnula Flanagan). She has the ability to help take away a person’s negative emotions and pain and locked them in small jars. Then you see a room full of jars filled with negative images like storm clouds, rain and tornados. For me it was a wonderful metaphor and message for what I need to be aware of in my own life. I have jars like those inside me and it is my goal to release and transform those negative emotions and memories. That’s my vision!
Life can be a magical experience both in good times and bad. If you choose to focus on an awesome, positive vision of your future you can attract the magical messages to take you there. Just keep your heart and mind wide open for the way the messages arrive and then take action to move forward!

Tip#836: Activate The Power of Your Mind, Part 2 - E-Motion
One important factor I’ve learned about movies is that people can be so passionately for or against a film. Every person will resonate differently so no one is either right or wrong by their choices or preferences. For me I grew up loving Sci Fi and fantasy movies like Star Wars in 1977 where I was introduced to concept of The Force. As Obi Wan Kenobi says, “It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us; it binds the galaxy together.”
If you’ve been following this blog then you’ll know I’ve been creating Resilience Resources to share with others that have helped me cope and overcome depression and mental health challenges. My goal has always been to restore my health and get unstuck in various areas of my life and career. Thankfully this latest movie I discovered has rocked my world and excited my imagination for understanding the next level of The Force!
E-Motion (2014)
E-Motion is a factual documentary that explores how human emotions affect the physiology of the human body and how once negative emotions are replaced with positive emotions bona fide physical changes occur. A team of emotion experts from around the world share their wisdom and negative emotion clearing methods to show humanity the path to health and enlightenment (summary from IMDb). See: movie trailer
Dr. Bradley Nelson, E-Motion
Sonia Choquette, E-Motion
There were so many health aspects and tips from this documentary that excited me that I watched it three times in three days. I’ve already implemented a healthier diet of more fruits and vegetables. I believe my love for Sci Fi and fantasy films kept my mind wide open to what others may call radical or unbelievable claims in this movie. For me it answered questions I’ve struggled with for years of why certain dreams and goals in my life, work and relationships seem caught in a loop very much like the film Groundhog Day.
If you resonate with what I’ve just shared then I highly recommend you see this film. Pick and choose any of the concepts, tips and methods that inspire or intrigue you. Let the film activate your imagination and the power of your mind. If you feel terminally stuck in your work or life your present thinking and beliefs may have got you there. Why not open your mind and try something new today!

Tip#835: You Are Awesome! Part 2 - The Duff
“You need to realize you are only as awesome as you think you are.”
The Duff (2015)
When I went to high school there were no cell phones, no internet and no social media. And during that time I would have labelled myself a classic nerd for my passion of superhero comic books, Star Trek and Sci Fi films. But I decided to excel at what I loved and ended up being editor-in-chief of my high school yearbook and getting elected valedictorian for my graduating year. I became the best nerd I could be and gave my first motivational speech as valedictorian!
In 2015 times have changed especially with technology. High school kids have cell phones and the internet and social media are now just part of life. The one factor that hasn’t changed is labels. Movies throughout the years like Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982), Clueless (1995), Never Been Kissed (1999), Superbad (2007) all feature timeless labels which continues today with the film The Duff.
The Duff (2015)
The comedy film, The Duff, is about teenager Bianca (Mae Witman) in her senior year of high school and is told that she is the “DUFF” of her friends group, the “Designated Ugly Fat Friend”. At first Bianca is shocked and hurt then makes it a goal to change her social standing. There are some hilarious scenes and the film is a great glimpse for adults at the similarities and differences from their high school years. See: movie trailer
This film is rich with insights about labels as well as motivational statements and tips for self-empowerment. In fact Bianca’s mother wrote a self-help book and is constantly offering motivational catch phrases (some cheesy!). There are also insights on the viral effects of social media and how highly integrated it is in our current society.
“You’re a weirdo, fine. Own it. Be the best weirdo you can be.”
The Duff (2015)
This quote from Bianca’s mother immediately reminded me of the fantastic acceptance speech from the recent Academy Awards by writer Graham Moore, “I would like this moment to be for that kid out there who feels like she’s weird or she’s different or she doesn’t fit anywhere. Yes you do. I promise you do. Stay weird. Stay different.” (see video: tip#830).
I highly recommend The Duff to inspire you to find the courage and belief in yourself whether you're are a teenager or adult. Fill your thoughts and feelings of how awesome you are! And just be the best you can be no matter what you are labeled by others!
“It’s about understanding that no matter what label is thrown your way only YOU can define yourself.”

Tip#834: Resilience Resources, Part 14 - Top 10 Movies for Inspiring Resilience in the Workplace
“Failure is not an option!”
Apollo 13 (1995)
Before anyone in the workplace can build resilience, teamwork or mental health they must have a vision of what they want to achieve. As author Stephen Covey says in his book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, you must “Begin with the end in mind”. That vision will help individuals in the workplace to visualize a target to focus on during difficult times and unexpected change or crisis.
"Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies."
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Movies have the power of helping show a vision of what resilience can look like or how effective teamwork can be that could be applied to the workplace. These films could be from any genre such as action adventure, science fiction, family, biographical/historical dramas and even romantic comedies. Here is a list of my top 10 favourite films that feature a multitude of personal and professional development themes for the workplace.
Themes include:
• Vision/Goal Achieving
• Passion
• Perseverance
• Indestructible Optimism
• Resilience
• Teamwork/Team Spirit
• Leadership
A Knight’s Tale (2001)
William Thatcher (Heath Ledger) has a vision to become a knight despite being born in a lower class in medieval times where legalities forbid this goal. His vision and passion inspires and cultivates a strong team allowing each of them to happily utilize their own strengths and skills to accomplish Thatcher’s goal.
Amazing Grace (2006)
This biographical film is about William Wilberforce (Ioan Gruffudd) and his vision to abolish the British slave trade in the late 1700’s. His passionate goal fuels him to persevere through many difficult years and inspires his dedicated team to keep moving forward despite much political and public opposition.
Apollo 13 (1995)
Based on a true story of how NASA maintained their vision to bring home three stranded astronauts in a damaged spacecraft. Astronaut Jim Lovell (Tom Hanks) and Flight Director Gene Kranz (Ed Harris) both demonstrate excellent leadership skills, resilience and perseverance in finding their creative solutions for success.
Big Miracle (2012)
Based on the true story of the 1988 international effort to rescue three gray whales trapped by ice in Alaska. Greenpeace volunteer Rachel Kramer (Drew Barrymore) passionately holds fast to her vision of freeing the whales while dealing with the media and multiple parties pushing their own agendas for wanting to help.
Flight of the Phoenix (2004)
This remake of the film with the same name demonstrates how a group vision motivates a diverse group of individuals to work together and rebuild their crashed plane in order to rescue themselves. Focusing on the positives over the negatives of their crisis situation fuels each of their resilience.
42 (2013)
This biographical film is about Jackie Robinson (Chadwick Boseman) becoming the first black baseball player in a major league and of team executive Branch Rickey’s (Harrison Ford) vision to achieve this goal in the mid 1940’s. Robinson’s resilience also brings his teammates together as they all face intense prejudice.
Jerry Maguire (1996)
This film is about how sports agent Jerry Maguire (Tom Cruise) rediscovers his passion and vision for the work he wants to do by writing a mission statement. That key action leads him to transforming his work, life and attitude to have more fulfilling, team oriented relationships both personal and professional.
Master & Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003)
This historical drama takes place during the Napoleonic Wars and is about Captain "Lucky Jack" Aubrey (Russell Crowe) assigned to pursue an enemy ship. Aubrey maintains his perseverance and resilience while showing outstanding leadership and strategic thinking that fosters loyalty and great teamwork from his crew.
Remember The Titans (2000)
Based on a true story of African American coach Herman Boone (Denzel Washington) and his goal to merge a racially diverse football team at a high school in 1971. Boone’s strong will, vision and leadership qualities help each team member work hard to accomplish this challenging, overwhelming task.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
This film is about wrongfully imprisoned Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) who holds a vision of being free someday. Through strategic thinking and long term planning he cultivates social support and team spirit in projects he creates during decades in prison. Together they foster each other’s resilience and personal growth.
Movies like these can help excite and expand your mind to the possibilities of personal and group resilience in the workplace. Watch the film titles that resonate with you right now. Movies can bring out your inner strengths, improve your mental health and provide an entertaining break from your challenges. You’ll return to the workplace more energized, resilient and productive than ever!
"I'm a winner. I'm going to win."
