I hadn't slept well at all during the past two months I was house sitting at a friend’s beautiful, sunlit home. I couldn’t understand it at the time. Plus I was feeling compelled to look into the spiritual meanings of the root chakra that related to: security, safety, survival, basic needs (food, sleep, shelter, money, etc.) and grounding. The last term “grounding” then led me to something that blew my mind about healing myself at a core level!
The term “earthing” or “grounding” is initially known to protect you from an electric shock. It does this by providing a path (a protective conductor) for a fault current to flow into the earth. That’s what the third prong of your plug does which is ground the electricity of any device you plug in. What I discovered was the profound importance of grounding our own bodies for multiple healing benefits.
I had found this concept of earthing through an amazing documentary called The Grounded directed by Steve Kroschel and featured Dr. Joseph Mercola, Dr. David Suzuki, Dr. Laura Koniver, astronaut Edgar D. Mitchell and Clint Ober one of the authors of “Earthing: The Most Important Health Discovery Ever?”. I then found a short documentary that was also highly educational called Down To Earth that also featured Clint Ober.

I have become passionately driven to research earthing/grounding and not just for the benefits of solving my sleep problems. I am excited about how it could dramatically reduce chronic inflammation in the body such as arthritis and autoimmune diseases as well as speed up wound healing and more. The answer pointed to the benefits of simply walking barefoot on the earth!
This photo was from my visit to Santa Barbara on January 1, 2019 where I instinctively needed to feel the sand and ocean water on my barefeet. Learning about earthing/grounding months later was an amazing epiphany of what my body was intensely craving on New Year's Day!
Walking barefoot on grass, soil, sand, water, stone, brick and concrete allows negative electrons, or charges, to counteract the build up of positive electrons in our bodies from all the EMF radiation (electromagnetic frequencies) we are bombarded with every day from the electrical devices like our cell phones, computers, WiFi and kitchen appliances. This revelation led me to thinking about two movies that must have been secretly teaching me about earthing so many years in advance!
Powder (1995)
The fantasy drama film, Powder, is about Jeremy "Powder" Reed (Sean Patrick Flanery), gifted with an incredible intellect, telepathy and paranormal powers after his mother was struck by lightening when he was in her womb. This emotionally engaging story features many thought provoking concepts about human evolution and society’s resistance to different people. Also starring Jeff Goldblum, Mary Steenburgen, and Lance Henriksen.

I always loved the Sci Fi, fantasy and spiritual themes of this movie and remembered it as I learned about earthing/grounding, electricity, energy and our important relationship with it. I was reminded that we are all electrical beings and that in order to live a long healthy life I needed to understand my relationship with the earth. And even though electricity is invisible I was discovering that negative electrons are vital for healing and maintaining a strong, body, mind and spirit.
Avatar (2009)
The science fiction, action film, Avatar, is about humans wanting to take the natural resources from the planet Pandora and how Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) helps the indigenous people, the Na'vi, to preserve their world. This visually stunning and highly creative movie is filled with many exciting action scenes and moral messages. Also starring Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez and Giovanni Ribisi.

While learning about earthing and our innate, forgotten physical connection with our planet’s energy I immediately thought of the Na’vi’s beliefs and profound relationship with their planet Pandora. That, in turn, is actually based on other indigenous people on our planet and their belief that we are connected to our world on a deeper level. In the film you see how the Na’vi physically connect and communicate with their world through their ponytails as they can bond with the energy tendrils of plant life, animals and each other.
Learning that we each have the power to heal ourselves can be an exciting journey. We just have to be open to the solutions no matter how simple or strange the solutions may be. Documentaries and Hollywood movies can help inspire us to new possibilities and new ways of thinking. Find a film today to excite you about your own power to heal!
