Tip#155: Embrace Uncertainty - Raiders of the Lost Ark

Life is suppose to be an adventure. And yet when we are faced with life challenges we can be paralyzed by uncertainty. The key to overcoming this negative mindset is to do your best to just BE with the moment.

This may sound like an uncomfortable thought but it is all about building your courage for facing the unknown. I've been dealing with my own uncertainties these past few months and it has truly taught me to hone my own skills in remaining optimistic and resilient.

Eckhart Tolle & A New Earth

During these challenging few months I was synchronistically drawn to Oprah's groundbreaking live webcast classes each week. Available free on the internet to anyone in the world, Oprah discussed each of the 10 chapters of the motivational book, A New Earthwith author Eckhart Tolle.

This has been a powerful gift for me to be able to listen or watch each Monday night class on Oprah's website, Oprah.com. They addressed many issues we all face that prevent us from achieving our happiness or goals. Embracing uncertainty was a key factor.

Tolle says, "When you become comfortable with uncertainty, infinite possibilities open up in your life. It means fear is no longer a dominant factor in what you do and no longer prevents you from taking action to initiate change."

Raiders of the Lost Ark

This quote reminded me of my favourite cinematic role models and how they've embraced uncertainty, able to take action and overcome their obstacles. One example is Indiana Jones from his first movie, Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Right from the beginning of the film you witness how action-oriented Indiana Jones is. When faced with relentless challenges from villains or a variety of impasses he is able to embrace the uncertainty and be in the moment. It is in these cinematic moments we can derive positive emotional energy to fuel ourselves in facing our own fears.

So when you feel stuck and uncertain in life just do your best to be in the moment. Don't dwell on the past or worry about the future. Be in the present and face your fears and challenges head on.

Make your life an adventure by becoming comfortable with the unknown. And then you'll see the infinite possibilities awaiting you.

This is great. This relates to some things I've learned lately. It's great to set goals for yourself, but people can start to become obsessed with achieving those that they don't enjoy the present as much or think that if they don't achieve them then they or their lives aren't worthy. But for example, even in my goal to become more confident in various areas of my life, I've learned that I have to learn to accept myself for who I am now in order to be able to get to where I want. Otherwise, it'll be that much harder to get to that level of confidence, since a part of me will keep rejecting me and the part of me that gets shy or nervous in certain situations.

Also, I heard that whatever you resist persists. So by learning to accept things in our lives and allow them to just come in, they will pass more quickly. This includes negative emotions. The Sedona Method, which I am getting a book on soon, is related to this as well.

Take care,
Shlomit

Be in the moment. don't let work or your problems occupy you full time. "When you are in the shower, be in the shower. When you are at work you don't think about the shower do you?" Take a mental break from the past an the future and just be now.

Nice one Emman! Love Tolle's book. I read it about a month ago, and started watching Oprah's show then missed it for about the last 5 weeks but it really put a lot of things in perspective for me.

WOW! Keep up the great work pal - I REALLY admire the fact that you have stayed with your idea of doing these tips, you are very focused and devoted - Kudos! I love your tips and often pass select ones to my friends.

Cheers,
Jamie.
