Tip#540: Great Teamwork Movies Part 3 – The Avengers

My first experience as an assistant at The Mastery of Self Expression workshop (see tip#538) was extremely empowering and exhilarating! This was, in part, due to my fellow assistants and the incredible team we developed and maintained. In our meeting prior to the workshop we even called ourselves the Mastery Avengers and gave ourselves superhero names:

Captain Mastery
Enthusiazmo
Pink Pearl
Dawne-a-Matrix
Centre-of-Attention Man
Claire-Voyant
Black Kitty
Master Windu
and, or course, Motivatorman

Working together was seamless and we were very supportive of each other. Plus we were all dedicated to being of service to the participants over the 2 and a half day workshop. Our caring and loving attitudes were a testament to the greatness of The Mastery we attended ourselves in the past. And even when I needed help dealing with my own emotional issues coming up I had team-members come quickly to my aid like Captain Mastery and Enthusiazmo! That was true teamwork!

The Avengers 2012

The comic book movie The Avengers is about a superhero team consisting of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Captain America (Chris Evans). Despite their vastly different personalities they are brought together by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to fight the enemy Loki (Tom Hiddleston).

What you witness is as much fighting between the heroes as with their enemies. This film is a study of how different temperaments and attitudes may cause friction but are focused into a team mentality to achieve a common goal. Each hero has a unique superpower that becomes even more effective when they help one another through challenges they face AND more so in the climactic battle. They learn to work together.

A Passion for Superhero Teams

I grew up with a passion for super hero comics like The Avengers and The X-Men that helped instill a strong sense of team spirit within me. And when I watch the live-action film adaptations it further inspires the importance of having a support team in my life, workplace and business to achieve my dreams and goals! And in return I love being part of someone else's team, whom I care about, and assist them.

Everyone has unique skill sets and talents and they can help accelerate the process of obtaining your goals in any area of your life. It is your task to cultivate meaningful connections with these individuals and create your own support team. Find people who believe in you and your goal and you are half way there. And then when you learn to work together effectively you will discover that ANYTHING is possible!

Tip#539: Passion, Synchronicities & Making Soulful Connections - Rick Springfield – An Affair of the Heart

When I started writing this movie blog back in 2006 it was partly because I wanted to document and share the many profound synchronicities I experienced on a regular basis. They were always chance encounters or situations that instantly propelled my life, career and business forward AND they were like pivotal scenes right out of a movie!

The Hot Docs Documentary Festival is currently on this week in Toronto and my friend (Karen Beach of Ptah Design Inc.) invited me to see a movie without telling me what it was. When she arrived she was with David Dean the editor of the movie we were about to see. It was a documentary of 80's pop star Rick Springfield and it was David’s first feature. He was so down to earth and humble and I felt we bonded over our shared passion for films.

The director Sylvia Caminer and one of the stars, Laurie Bennett, then arrived and Karen introduced me to both of them. They both had beautiful energy! And what I loved about meeting all 3 of these people is once I told them I wrote a blog on movies that motivate they instantly loved my approach. They all said their movie would be perfect for my blog and I had a very strong feeling they were right! See: movie trailer

An Affair of the Heart 2012

The documentary An Affair of the Heart is about Grammy winning musician, songwriter, actor and New York Times best-selling author Rick Springfield and his loyal and passionate fan base. The film reveals many powerful insights and stories that are so universal to the human spirit that you will become an instant fan of Springfield for helping create community through his music.

Key motivating factors presented in this film:

• How passion (and nostalgia) can re-ignite positive emotional energy
• The joy of making like-minded connections
• The healing, rejuvenating power of music
• Persevering through depression
• The power of synchronicity

The most powerful fan story features Laurie Bennett who had to endure a painful, debilitating heart surgery in her early teens. A Rick Springfield album had synchronistically came into her life and she listened to his music every single day. She says his music helped heal her during the most painful time of her life.

Many years later Laurie got the chance to read a thank you letter to Springfield in person. Springfield was deeply moved and that magical moment is shown through photos taken by Laurie's husband. Laurie said that profound moment helped her release anger about the heart surgery she'd been holding onto for years.

The next day Laurie and her husband was at the airport on their way home when they found out Springfield was also there. His flight had been delayed and he was desperate to get to the funeral service of his surrogate mother. Synchronistically they were both heading in the same direction. With her husband's consent Laurie arranged with the airline to give Springfield her husband's ticket. Springfield reluctantly accepted and he arrived exactly when the funeral service commenced. As for Laurie she got to sit next to Springfield on the plane and bond as two human beings who simply helped one another in their time of need.

Bonding

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie on so many levels and all I kept thinking about was I needed to see this film again! To the thrill of the audience (and me!) Springfield showed up at the end of the screening to answer questions. He looked amazing at the age of 62! Later Karen and I were invited to go out for drinks with the filmmakers Sylvia, David and Laurie.

I was absolutely thrilled to be sitting next to Laurie and hear more about her experiences and passion for Springfield’s music. It not only healed her it connected her to other like-minded people who shared her passion. We then bonded over the healing power of movies and how she loved my service for providing movie prescriptions for people going through difficult times.

It was also exciting to share my enthusiasm for the movie to the editor David and the director Sylvia. I knew this incredible movie could inspire people who were not necessarily Springfield fans and I offered to help promote it on my social media channels. They were all very grateful for my offer and I just felt a deep bond being created between heart-based people. And ironically these like-minded connections are what the film celebrated!

Share Your Passion With Others

Sharing a passion is amazing because it can magnetize you to new friends and experiences. And when you are open to synchronicity you are open to magical circumstances that can feel profound and even divinely guided. Sharing your passion can lead to making soulful connections that can become a source of happiness, comfort and inspiration. And isn't that what we all desire?

SEE THIS MOVIE NOW IF YOU ARE IN TORONTO!
If you read this in time you can see a final screening of An Affair of the Heart at Hot Docs, Thursday, May 3rd, 6:30pm. See Details

Tip#538: Unleash Your Inner Strength & Voice – The Mastery of Self Expression – 4 Movie Tips

This month I am celebrating a 2-year anniversary of receiving a big gift right after I claimed bankruptcy, lost my home and purged most of my worldly possessions. I was invited to participate in the 2 and 1/2 day intensive workshop called The Mastery of Self Expression. This workshop saved my crushed spirit on so many levels and it feels fantastic to look back at this turning point in my life! Read more on Tip#351

I am posting this the morning that I am assisting in another Mastery workshop here in Toronto facilitated by the great Larry Gilman and my friend and colleague Tammy Cunningham. It feels so good to give back and help this new group of individuals needing help to unleash their true voice. For you to get an idea of the life-changing benefits of this workshop I will share 4 movies that relate to the power of The Mastery experience.

Peaceful Warrior 2006
Movie Tip: Be guided by wise facilitators and coaches
The movie hero Dan (Dan Millman) is guided by an enigmatic and enlightened gas station attendant named Socrates (Nick Nolte) to let go of old ways of thinking. Dan learns how to achieve his dreams and goals by surrendering and trusting in Socrates' teachings and unusual exercises.

Eat Pray Love 2010
Movie Tip: Purge in order to move forward
The movie hero Liz (Julia Roberts) discovers that purging her life of unwanted relationships, money, belongings and home was necessary in order for her to move forward. Major clearing was the ultimate way for her to find true inner peace, the relationship she desired and the happiness she was seeking.

The Karate Kid 1984 & 2010
Movie Tip: Trust in unusual self-development processes
The young movie heroes of both versions of this film, Daniel (Ralph Macchio) in the original and Tre (Jaden Smith) in the latest each go through tasks that seem like mundane chores e.g. "wax on wax off". They later discover that they were experiencing a transformative self-development process that brought out their inner strengths and honed new skill sets.

The King's Speech 2010
Movie Tip: Find courage for positive change; Trust in a coach and facilitator
King George VI (Colin Firth) finds the courage to trust in the unorthodox healing methods of his speech therapist Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush). Together they persevere to breakthrough old mindsets preventing the King from fully expressing himself, his voice and his greatness.

Tip#536: 4 Inspiring Movies to Celebrate Earth Day

Today is Earth Day and I have 2 friends who are having birthdays too so it is a triple celebration! One of those friends is someone I do regular movie nights with where we celebrate a shared passion for movies, delicious home cooked meals and friendship.

Earth Day is celebrated worldwide and is an opportunity for each of us to become more conscious of what we can do for our ailing environment.

Here are 4 movies to inspire you:

Avatar 2009

In the mid-22nd century, humans are mining a precious metal on a moon in another star system called Pandora. They run into conflict with the native inhabitants called the Na'vi who are spiritually connected to the land and all other beings on their world. The film is a powerful mirror for the slow destruction of our own planet and a lesson in living more in harmony with our remaining resources.

Wall-E 2008

In the future where there are no people left on the planet, a little robot named WALL-E is seen cleaning up a waste-covered Earth. He falls in love with another robot named EVE visiting Earth and follows her into outer space. His adventure helps change the destiny of humanity. This animated film is a mirror for how much waste we produce and our over consumption that is causing environmental damage.

The Day the Earth Stood Still 2008

In this remake, an alien visitor comes to Earth to save the world from humans who are destroying its environment and not able to change its ways. Throughout the story you see how spheres around the world are collecting every animal species like Noah's Ark. The lesson in the film is that humans are capable of great change but only when faced with crisis.

Evan Almighty 2007

In this sequel to Bruce Almighty, God asks Evan to build an ark because a flood is coming. Evan had prayed to God for help because, as a new congressman, he wanted to change the world. God gives him a powerful message that the way to change the world is by doing one Act of Random Kindness (ARK) at a time.

Let Earth Day inspire you to think about what YOU can do to improve our environment and re-vitalize our planet. And if changing the world seems overwhelming then remember the movie message that you can start by doing ONE Act of Random Kindness at a time!

Tip#535: You Can Rewrite Your Life, Part 1 – The Cabin in the Woods

Recently I have been rewriting and re-editing my first book based on my movie blog AND re-vamping my Motivatorman website and it has been a thrill! Through many motivating factors I have been extremely clear-headed, focused and keen on what I need to do! In fact, friends, colleagues and clients have been asking to re-edit their resume, blog content or promo material to add more clarity and sizzle!

This all relates to a movie I was drawn to seeing that re-writes its genre. At first the trailer for The Cabin in the Woods looks like a standard slasher/horror flick so I had no interest in seeing. I was finally stoked to see the movie only after film critics were enthusiastic about how unique it was with one reviewer actually saying to see the movie BEFORE reading his review! So that's what I did.

Cabin in the Woods (2012)

The movie The Cabin in the Woods is about five friends who go to a remote and mysterious cabin in the woods…

That's all I am going to say! If you want to experience what I mean about rewriting a genre, in this case, horror films then I HIGHLY recommend you see this movie without reading any reviews. If you love horror movies and you can handle some cinematic blood and guts then you are in for a unique ride. And you may gain insights on rewriting your own life or career and take it to a whole new level!

Seeking a more meaningful life or career means you must re-edit the script of your path. If you are unhappy with how things are remember that you have the power to make positive changes. You can rewrite how things are! Be bold and cut out what is not working in your life today.

Tip#534: Passion & Perseverance, Part 1 – 100th Year Anniversary - Titanic

I believe that a movie seen at different times of your life can affect you deeply in very different ways. This is why repeat viewings of a favourite movie can provide you new insights as well as being a source of entertainment or escape. I experience this all the time and one recent moment was from the epic film Titanic.

Today this post falls on April 15th which is the 100th year anniversary of the Titanic's sinking in 1912. And yesterday I felt compelled to see Titanic 3D just released in theatres so it was very synchronistic I share my new insights on one of my favourite movies. It is a film that clearly demonstrates the inspiring power of passion and perseverance.

Titanic (1997)

The epic romantic historical disaster movie Titanic won 11 Academy Awards including best picture. It tells the story of Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose (Kate Winslet) coming from different social classes and falling in love aboard the glorious but doomed ship the RMS Titanic.

Along this journey you can feel the incredible passion between Jack and Rose. And you witness how this passion fuels each of them to persevere despite hopeless and catastrophic situations as the Titanic slowly sinks into the icy waters of the Atlantic. On my latest viewing of this film I gained new insights that Jack also had a deep passion for life.

A Passion for Life

Jack enjoyed every second of life and it didn't matter that he was poor or had no solid home. He was happy and grateful for every life experience whether it be selling his drawings for 10 cents on the streets of Paris or dining in first-class wearing a tuxedo aboard the Titanic. It was his passion for life that ultimately empowered and saved Rose to live a long and meaningful life.

Jack's passion and optimistic attitude towards life reflected back to me that I'm now living the same way especially after all recent life challenges I've experienced (see tip#400). Jack's strength was a mirror for me and I felt empowered to keep moving forward full of indestructible optimism!

Find passion in your own life and it will fuel your perseverance in whatever challenges you face. And if you develop a passion for life itself then every single moment will be meaningful, enjoyable and vibrant! Remember to make each day count!

"I love waking up in the morning not knowing what's gonna happen or, who I'm gonna meet, where I'm gonna wind up. Just the other night I was sleeping under a bridge and now here I am on the grandest ship in the world having champagne with you fine people. I figure life's a gift and I don't intend on wasting it. You don't know what hand you're gonna get dealt next. You learn to take life as it comes at you... to make each day count."
Titanic (1997)

Tip#533: 15 Inspiring Movies For Difficult Times – Pecha Kucha Night

In October 2010, during my financial and life crisis I was going through, I gave a presentation called 15 Movies That Saved My Life This Year. It was in a format called Pecha Kucha where I showed 20 slides and had only 20 seconds for each.

Recently I did my 3rd Pecha Kucha presentation and this time I shared movies that helped save OTHER people’s lives in some way. See: Video

Tip#532: Personal Leadership, Part 2 – Schindler’s List

I recently facilitated a screening and discussion of Schindler's List on Good Friday for my client St. Andrew's United Church and I had a profound insight. For the first time I was able to see the movie hero, Oskar Schindler, as a master networker and entrepreneur. I recognized the core skill sets of a man who would later do something extraordinary and use his strengths to save over a thousand people during the Holocaust.

Part of the power of movies is that they can inspire and motivate you in different ways during different times of your life. When Schindler's List was first released in 1993 it helped educate me to the atrocities of the Holocaust. Because of the emotional intensities I could only watch it again in 2011. This time I was deeply inspired by the perseverance demonstrated by Schindler and the survivors. And in 2012 I was able to truly recognize the personal leadership of a man who chose to do great good with his skill sets.

Schindler's List 1993

Based on a true story, Steven Spielberg's movie Schindler's List is about Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson) a German businessman who saved the lives of more than a thousand, mostly Polish Jewish, refugees during the Holocaust by employing them in his factories. As the film begins you witness how Schindler was a master networker by making social connections very quickly with key Nazi officials at a restaurant. He then hires Itzhak Stern (Ben Kingsley) to be his accountant and liaison with the Jewish community to help build his business.

As the horrors of the Holocaust escalate Schindler begins to use his network to save as many Jews as he can. He even uses up all his accumulated wealth from his business to buy and protect as many Jews as he could. Though this film may be a challenge to watch, Oskar Schindler's leadership qualities can inspire your own personal leadership in your life, career or business.

Personal leadership is about crystallizing your thinking and taking charge of the direction and destination of your own life. Movie heroes can reflect your potential and inner strengths to be a leader in your own story. You already have certain gifts, skills, strengths and talents. Just chose to apply them onto the path you desire with confidence, courage and passion!

Tip#531: Recognize the Emotional Charge When Your Buttons Get Pushed – It Happened One Night

I recently attended a workshop that solidified my belief that every encounter and relationship we have are valuable, even the unpleasant ones! Graham and Monika Burwise's weekend workshop called Master the Art of Relationships was filled with deeply powerful insights and tools for attracting the people you desire into your life. One of those insights for me was the emotional charge.

The emotional charge can be defined as uncomfortable or painful feelings. And when you have these feelings interacting with someone it means that they are reflecting a part of yourself that you've disowned in your past. In other words some relationships may feel negative but they are helping you become more whole. Becoming more whole then, on a deep energetic level, attracts the meaningful relationships you want.

It Happened One Night 1934

The romantic comedy It Happened One Night is a Frank Capra classic about a pampered socialite Ellen Andrews (Claudette Colbert) who runs away from her father and shares a road trip with a reporter Peter Warne (Clark Cable). Instantly upon meeting on a bus they are at odds with each other, continuously arguing.

As they share several adventures together on the road Peter shows Ellen another side of life she never knew. He shows her what it's like when you have no money, live with basic shelter and the joy of good, common folk. Ellen is introduced to a side of life she didn't grow up with and ultimately falls in love with Peter and he with her.

Be Open

If you know people who push your buttons and you experience uncomfortable or painful feelings with them be open to the concept that they are helping you see something about yourself. Be open to the idea that the emotional charge you feel is just a signal or indicator that you are being brought a lesson for becoming a better person. This is an opportunity for you to grow and attract the meaningful relationships you've been dreaming for.

Today you may feel that emotional charge with someone. Feel the pain and be open to the gift they are bringing you!

Tip#530: How Movies Mirror Your Inner Strengths, Part 1 - The Color of Money

“You gotta have two things to win. You gotta have brains and you gotta have balls. Now, you got too much of one and not enough of the other.”
The Color of Money (1986)

Recently, I've been in the process of formalizing something I love to do into a coaching/consulting service. This is providing movie prescriptions for people stuck in their life, career, business or workplace. I already do this on this movie blog and with anyone I meet who needs motivation. I was feeling stuck about creating some service packages so I meditated on what movie would help me gain insights and the film The Color of Money came to mind.

Synchronistically, this film was release the same year (1986) I formalized my love for art and illustration into a business and founded Crackers World Communications. At the time it developed very easily because I had many mini-mentors in the illustration industry to guide my passion towards helping magazine or newspaper articles and advertising purposes and be paid for it. The Color of Money film helped me identify key success factors I needed to focus on for the new, exciting services I wanted to develop now.

The Color of Money (1986)

The movie The Color of Money continues the story of pool hustler and stakehorse "Fast Eddie" Felson (Paul Newman) from the 1959 film The Hustler. In the story Fast Eddie is retired but revitalizes his spirit when he encounters a highly skilled but unfocused protégé named Vincent (Tom Cruise). Fast Eddie takes Vincent and his girlfriend on the road and teaches him how to play the game of pool hustling.

"If you got an area of excellence, you’re good at something, you’re the best at something,
anything, then rich can be arranged. I mean rich can come fairly easy.”

Insights from a Movie

The insights I received from this film were many. I saw myself in Fast Eddie in that he revitalizes his life and sense of purpose at his age. I also saw myself in Vincent in that he had a gift and took it further with guidance from a mentor/coach. Since then I reached out to other life, career and business coaches that are also friends for advice. This movie helped me get unstuck.

I also realized my confidence and self-worth needed a boost for monetizing something that comes so naturally for me. I made a list of the uniqueness of my gifts (USP, Unique Selling Proposition) that helped me identify my expertise. 4 examples are:

1) I HAVE a vast knowledge of movies that motivate
2) I HAVE written over 500 movie tips already online
3) I CAN instantly provide a movie prescription for someone
4) I AM an excellent motivator, facilitator, speaker, consultant, coach

Making a list like this for yourself is sure to increase your own self-worth and confidence.

Movies have the power to mirror what you need to be aware of to move forward when you feel stuck or lost. Movie heroes can remind you of your inner strengths, skills and gifts even if you've completely forgotten. Remembering your strengths will then re-activate your confidence AND self-worth so you can achieve your dreams and goals. Find a movie hero today to remind you of your greatness!

Tip#529: Be Open to Evolving – Johnny Depp – 21 Jump Street

I grew up enjoying the TV show 21 Jump Street in the late 80's. Little did I know that it's star, Johnny Depp, would evolve into a megastar and a chameleon of an actor! For over 2 decades Depp has created many memorable characters in films such as: Edward Scissorhands, Chocolat, Pirates of the Caribbean, Alice in Wonderland, Rango and on and on and on!

Depp just keeps evolving his screen personas. And I found that I had to evolve my own sense of thinking when I saw the trailer of the new 21 Jump Street movie. The trailer looked nothing like the TV show I knew and loved. It looked like a complete reboot or a re-imagining because it seemed like a raunchy comedy. But I kept an open mind and saw it and I was surprised to be treated on many levels! See: movie trailer

21 Jump Street 2012

The action comedy 21 Jump Street is a loose sequel to the 1987 TV series of the same name. Morton Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Greg Jenko (Channing Tatum) first meet in high school and later attend police academy together. They are then reassigned undercover into a high school through a special division called 21 Jump Street.

The film is a hilarious departure from the tone of the original series with very engaging performances from the leads. There are even some nice life lessons that shine through for Schmidt and Jenko both personally and as friends. And yes there are cameos from the original TV series including Johnny Depp. His cameo is so fun and clever that it's best you see the film as soon as possible before anyone else blows the surprise!

Sometimes change is uncomfortable. That's why it's best to have an open mind and allow your thinking to be flexible. The world continually evolves whether you want it or not in our culture, technology, social media and even how stories are told. Be open to evolving and you will truly benefit from what you learn and discover!

Tip#528: Articulate Your Best To Others – The Hunger Games

I first heard about The Hunger Games book in 2010 through Shawne Duperon, a Six-time EMMY award winning producer and Media Expert (Read more in tip#406). I was attending her empowering Media Mastery Bootcamp in the US where we discovered we shared a big passion for movies. Since then we've been in regular contact discussing favourite films via Facebook! I found a new movie buddy!

I saw The Hunger Games film on opening weekend and was excited to discover there were many scenes with the main characters about how to interact with the media. They were being coached constantly on how to answer questions confidently with interviewers and how to create a memorable, heartfelt brand for the audiences watching them. It's as if you get a behind the scenes view of what American Idol is like for contestants and what Shawne does in her media and networking training!

The Hunger Games 2012

The science fiction movie The Hunger Games is based on the popular novel where youths between ages 12 to 18 are recruited from different districts for televised battles-to-the-death. Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) end up representing their district and, though scared, quickly find allies in their mentor Haymitch (Woody Harrelson) and stylist Cinna (Lenny Kravitz).

Together, Haymitch and Cinna coach Katniss and Peeta on successfully interacting with the media, specifically TV talk show host Caesar Flickerman (Stanley Tucci). By following their advice Katniss and Peeta clearly communicate their inner strengths, their unique personalities AND ultimately get audiences to root for their success in the games. Before her first interview Katniss was nervous but Cinna encouraged her and said, "Just be yourself". She did and the interviewer AND live audience loved her.

Katniss: "So you're here to make me look pretty."
Cinna: "I'm here to help you make an impression."

If you are ever interviewed on a radio or TV show or by any other media, use this movie or Shawn Duperon's expertise as resources to help you be the best you can be. Remember that interacting with the media is just another level of building meaningful relationships and allies in whatever service or message you are communicating. You just need to articulate yourself clearly and from your heart.

Tip#527: There Are Heroes Around You, Part 2 - Gandhi

I have 3 friends that have been on my mind recently because of their incredible resilience, courage and strength. They have been inspiring me with the challenges they've endured or are enduring now. One is my friend and business coach Patrick Bizandavyi who was able to stay positive during the killings in his hometown Burundi during the times of the Hotel Rwanda film. Read more in tip#523

The other is Robin Noble, travel and wellness consultant of Noble Destinations. She had survived a devastating car accident years ago and shattered many bones throughout her body and face. After a long journey she successfully learned how to walk and talk again.

And then there's Lynn Manwar whom I featured in Part 1 for overcoming many health challenges over the years like thyroid cancer (read more in tip#361). Recently she's been showing great courage during more chemotherapy. Her positive energy in her voice is very inspiring and she is documenting her journey and wellness tips on Facebook and her blog called Wellness Detective. See blog: click here

Gandhi 1982

The biographical film Gandhi is based on the life of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Ben Kingsley) who led the nonviolent resistance movement against British colonial rule in India. Through many years Gandhi demonstrated many great leadership qualities such as courage, focus, optimism, passion, perseverance, resilience and vision.

Gandhi had a vision for a better world and never gave up despite all the years of adversity he faced. Even during his hunger strikes he believed that by being a living example he could help transform the negative mindsets of his own people. Gandhi was a true hero whose legacy of strength continues to inspire through this movie and his actions while alive.

Be inspired by movie heroes and real-life heroes already around you. Listen to stories of someone you know who has faced adversity with courage. Listen to the keys that helped them persevere and maintain their optimism. Their stories are there to mirror your own potential for greatness. Be open to your greatness!

Tip#526: Movies To Wake You Up – Dr. Seuss' The Lorax

"Unless someone like you cares a whole lot, nothing is going to get better, it's not."
Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax (2012)

Four days ago I wrote (in tip#525) about the KONY 2012 video that has been viral online and increasing awareness around the world about the help African children need. The views on Youtube has increased to over 81,900,00. So in four days 4 million more people are now conscious about a very important issue.

Recently I went to see a matinee screening of Dr. Seuss' The Lorax and in the front row were a group of young kids talking consistently throughout the film. Instead of being irritated I was actually amazed to hear them identifying the important issues the story was bringing up. For example they were eager to point out the villains chopping down trees and destroying nature. This movie was helping young children wake up to critical issues on our planet!

Dr. Seuss' The Lorax (2012)

The animated movie The Lorax is based on Dr. Seuss' story of a 12 year old boy Ted (Zac Efron) searching to find a real tree in a town where non exists. He meets The Once-ler (Ed Helms) who tells Ted his story of how, as a young businessman, destroyed an entire land of trees in order to make products he sold called the Thneed. The Lorax (Danny DeVito) appears at the start of the destruction and "speaks for the trees" pleading to the Once-ler to stop his actions. See: movie trailer

The story is a fable about the danger corporate greed has on nature and our environment. Through colourful, whimsical characters and catchy songs this film entertains AND educates audiences of harsh realities we face in our economy and our natural resources. This movie can help children learn about the world they are living in and hopefully become passionate about making positive changes.

Movies have the power to wake us up to important messages about our selves and our world. Let yourself be moved by these films and, if your passion is stirred, take some action for positive change. Whatever age you are you can make a difference! And once you’ve woken to a meaningful cause do your best not to ever shut your eyes again!

Tip#525: The Power of Youtube – KONY 2012 Video – Machine Gun Preacher

Here's another incredible synchronicity, in the first week of March I was compelled to watch Machine Gun Preacher based on true story of a man rescuing African children abducted and turned into soldiers. Within a few days a friend sends me the KONY 2012 video all about the same subject! I knew deep inside this must mean something immensely important.

Firstly, the movie and the KONY 2012 video is bringing awareness to the horrors happening to children in Africa so help can come on a global level. Secondly, the video on Youtube had reached over 77,900.000 views in just 9 days which demonstrates the power of social media as a hyper fast method of sending a message to the world. The video immediately caught Oprah’s attention who quickly spread the news on her Twitter profile with over 9,800,000 followers.

Also the real machine gun preacher, Sam Childers, immediately responded to the KONY 2012 video to clarify who else needs to be stopped in Africa. Read more: click here

See Sam Childer's video message: click here

Machine Gun Preacher (2011)

The movie Machine Gun Preacher is based on the true story of Sam Childers (Gerard Butler) who goes through a religious transformation and discovers a calling to help children in Africa being abducted and forced into becoming soldiers. You see how a man's passion and purpose can produce life-saving results like building an orphanage for African children who have lost their homes and families.

Childers continues his fight to this day demonstrating great courage, perseverance and passion in his cause to help a suffering nation. This movie helped me become aware of the dire situations happening on the other side of the globe. I am grateful for movies like this AND Youtube for helping me learn more about our world and how we can all be part of a community that helps one another.

Be inspired by movies based on true stories to help you envision what you can transform or change in your life. Recognize the power of Youtube and how it can help educate and bring awareness to subjects you may care deeply about. And when you see evidence of how videos and movies can help bring about a sense of community you can become a meaningful part of a GLOBAL community for change.
