Tip#964: Life Changing Choices, Part 2 - Eye in the Sky

Looking back at my life and career I can see some difficult choices and decisions that led to amazing life changing benefits. I remember having to choose whether or not to stay for an additional year at high school even though I was already accepted to OCAD University (known as OCA then). With the help and advice from friends and family I chose to stay and then attended OCAD a year later. That year I was elected Valedictorian in high school and then started my first year at OCAD where I met my first girlfriend. Decades later she remains one of my best friends and has even hired me for speaking engagements!

I also remember the last time I saw my dad. It was pouring rain and I was looking at him through the water drenched windshield of my car about to pull out of the driveway. He had a sad look on his face and something told me to get out and give him one more hug goodbye. I made the decision to stay in the car and several weeks later my dad passed away unexpectedly. Looking back I do my best to honor the choice I made and yet there are days I wished I had given my dad that one last hug.

We make all kinds of choices and decisions every day at our work and in life. Then we get to enjoy or deal with the benefits or consequences that follow. Here is a film that explores the complications and challenges that develop from one important decision being debated.

Eye in the Sky (2015)

The thriller film, Eye in the Sky, is about the decisions, discussions and debates that arise from the use of drone warfare against people using terrorist tactics hidden in Nairobi, Kenya. This riveting story features excellent performances by Helen Mirren as Colonel Katherine Powell, Aaron Paul as USAF pilot Steve Watts and, in one of his final roles, Alan Rickman as Lieutenant General Frank Benson. See: movie trailer

I was on the edge of my seat for the intense drama that unfolded! The heated discussions were as compelling as the live feeds they were watching from drones high in the sky as well as high tech surveillance that looked like a hummingbird and a flying beetle. The decision making process is constantly explored especially when individuals use the term “referring up” when they don't think they have the authority for approvals. The process reveals many ethical, legal and political questions that must be considered and answered.

Inspiring Themes:
• Perseverance
• Resilience
• Strategic Thinking
• Ethical, Legal & Political points-of-view
• Accountability

Some choices can be made with confidence and others may need the aid and advice of other people. And some of these decisions can change the course of your life or career. In the end we all must take responsibility for the decisions and actions we take. I hope today your choices lead to positive outcomes!

Tip#963: Great Teamwork Movies, Part 11 - Money Monster

I’ve been feeling extremely blessed and grateful for several close friends recently! For over a decade we’ve helped each other through life challenges, relationships and with each of our careers. One friend treated me to a thrilling supermarket shopping spree where she introduced me to the nutritional deliciousness of beet greens and Swiss chard! Whereas another friend I had helped with their social media photos introduced me to the 7-minute workout app!

Thanks to their knowledge and insights I continue to feel better and better as well as transform my lifestyle for achieving my wellness goals. And I love when I can be of service to them whether it is offering my knowledge and skills when they need it most or just helping motivate them forward. They always remind me that we are part of each other's team and that this is what team spirit is all about!

Money Monster (2016)

The thriller film, Money Monster, is about a live TV show of the same name suddenly taken over by angry investor Kyle Budwell (Jack O’Connell) and holds it’s host, Lee Gates (George Clooney), hostage. This riveting story also has splashes of humour and strong performances by Clooney, O’Connell and Julia Roberts as the show’s director Patty Fenn. Plus it was fun to see Clooney shake his booty! See: movie trailer

As the intense drama unfolds you see how Lee and Patty adapt to the unexpected crisis. Thanks to an earpiece Lee is wearing, Patty can help direct him to stay calm and manage the disgruntled Kyle. She is constantly reminding Lee about his own communication skills and soon reclaims a confident, leadership role.

What was also inspiring to watch was how one cameraman named Lenny (Lenny Venito) maintains his position and responsibilities despite this life threaten situation. He continues to do his job to the best of his abilities and with courage and confidence! These characters all demonstrate excellent examples of teamwork in the face of adversity and can be an inspirational mirror for your own success in the workplace.

“I was just doing my job. I don’t quit until the director tells me to.”

Tip#962: Increase Your Positive Emotional Energy, Part 3 - The Present

I love food equally as much as I love movies! That’s why I get a thrill photographing meals that excite my senses and post them on my Film Food Friends Project on Instagram. It’s also where I document my wellness program and current gut health diet. I enjoy sharing wonderful new foods I am eating like beef bone broth and green smoothies as well as the comfort foods I grew up with. It’s really about sharing the positive emotional energy I get from delicious food and uplifting movie experiences!

And when it comes to creative food combinations it is always an unexpected delight when certain ingredients come together producing a joyful, unique taste sensation! For example a hot waffle combined with frozen vanilla ice cream always sends my taste buds soaring. At first it was a strange concept but in the end it was such a tantalizing gift for my senses.

I recently attended a Weetabix Lunch & Learn hosted by Stephanie Blok of Hot Dish PR and where presenter and Nutritionist, Theresa Albert gave a fun, educational talk on fiber health tips. We were then treated to a fantastic gourmet lunch prepared by Jeremy J. Parsons who created four delicious dishes using Weetabix products. The tastes were absolutely unique and exquisite!

1) Alpen Dark Chocolate Rasberry Bombs (using Alpen Dark Chocolate Whole Grain Swiss Style Muesli Cereal)
2) Weetabix Chicken Fingers (using Weetabix Whole Grain Cereal)
3) Weetabix Mac & Cheese (using Weetabix Whole Grain Cereal)
4) Crunchy Spring Salad (using GrainShop, 5 Whole Grains High Fiber Cereal)

These dishes reminded me of a wonderful experience of recently had watching a special animated short film!

The Present (2014)

The animated short, The Present, was created and directed by German animator Jacob Frey, alongside with Markus Kranzler. This short is only four minutes and yet it I highly recommend you see it first before reading any further. Let me just say that I was drawn to seeing it when I saw this headline on ScreenRant.com: “The Present: Heartwarming Short Lands Animators Jobs at Disney & Pixar”

Watch it now: The Present

Please don’t read any further before you have seen the video! Spoilers ahead!

Okay, did you watch it?

What did you feel at the end?

Did you feel emotional?

Did the unexpected ending move you?

Did it touch your heart?

If it did then that was your positive emotional energy being activated. It’s the energy that makes you feel good and can lead increasing your wellness and your indestructible optimism!

I rarely feature short films on this movie blog and yet this fantastic little film packs as much of an emotional wallop as a feature film. You could probably see why Disney Pixar hired these talented young filmmakers because their animated movies are hallmarks for beautiful, heartfelt moments. I had previously featured the Pixar short “Boundin’” because of its playful, uplifting message on being resilient. See: Tip#134

So whether you love food, movies, pets or another activity you are passionate about, be aware of the positive emotional energy that gets triggered within you. The things you love and love to do can re-energize your spirit and attitude during challenges at work and in life. They are the fuel to keep you enthusiastic, joyful and confident. This is the gift you can give yourself every day! And doesn’t everyone enjoy a little present?

Tip#961: How Movie Posters Motivate, Part 2 – Creative Visualization – The Artist

I love my new movie poster for The Artist! For over a year I've been looking for a poster I could use as a creative visualization tool for the joyful life and work I’ve been imagining. And The Artist film is truly joyful! It is overflowing with inspiring themes for passion, perseverance, resilience, teamwork, friendship, unconditional love, romantic love, adaptability and indestructible optimism. It is also an uplifting example for transforming depression, overcoming career failures and facing unexpected crisis and change with courage and confidence.

It also shows the type of woman I'd love to share my life with who is filled with sparkle, playful spirit, intelligence and warmhearted love! In addition, this movie won a multitude of awards including best picture at the Golden Globes and the Oscars. So for me this poster radiates a bright light of inspirational and motivational success energy to fuel my vision of the positive future I want to manifest in my life, career and relationships!

Creative visualization is an important theme in all my motivational talks and it starts with having a vision that excites you. For this poster I went to my number one resource, MoviePoster.com online, and spent many enjoyable hours checking out their collection of over 80,000 titles. I’d look for movie images that excited me and triggered my positive emotional energy. When I found The Artist poster I was thrilled because it was uniquely different from the theatrical version with its red banner and welcoming smiles and gestures of the two lead actors!

Since MoviePoster.com was in the same city I lived in I always enjoy going there personally even though you can order posters to be delivered to your doorstep. I reconnected with David Wallach and Daniel Levinas whom I met the last time I got posters and enjoyed the colourful energy of their warehouse where the walls are covered with an array of movie poster glory! It's a movie lover’s dream!

The Artist (2011)

The romantic comedy-drama film, The Artist, takes place in 1920’s Hollywood where silent screen idol, George Valentin (Jean Dujardin) is faced with the changing times of the sound era. He meets rising star Peppy Miller and together demonstrated the highs and lows of dealing with success and how to transform adversities to success. This is a magical, uplifting film despite it being silent and subtitled. See: movie trailer

This film gets better and better every time I see it! It can get your positive emotional energy flowing with so many memorable, whimsical scenes. Movie posters can evoke these feelings every time you glance at it which is why I am thrilled to have The Artist poster hanging where I see it everyday.

Creative visualization is a powerful method for helping reprogram your mindset for success which Olympic gold medalists like Michael Phelps utilize regularly. Simple tools like colourful post-it notes with positive quotes, goals or affirmations are also useful as are positive photographs and artwork that can fuel your imagination and visualization.

Movie posters can take it a step further because when you find one that re-ignites your positive feeling of a movie you love it can help you maintain the feel-good energy as if you already achieved what you want or desire. I highly recommend you identify your empowering films and find movie posters to direct you to your own dreams and goals! And then check out a resource like Movieposter.com for the poster that could help you feel good every day!

Tip#960: Increase Your Positive Emotional Energy, Part 2 - X-Men: Apocalypse

I’ve recently been shocked at the number of negative reviews of the X-Men: Apocalypse film because I loved it and experienced many inspirational and motivational moments. I realize that people can see the same movie and experience vastly different opinions and feelings so I will just focus on sharing the value I received from this epic superhero movie.

I felt several positive emotional energy moments during this film. These are times when a message from a scene or movie hero resonates so deeply within me that I feel a surge of energy flowing. My inner voice then tells me that I just received an answer I was seeking for moving forward in an area of my work or life. For example there is a scene where the character Professor X is physically incapacitated yet he remembers that he can deal with his adversity by going within his own mind and use his thoughts and inner strengths as a solution.

This was a big reminder for me to increase the meditation practices I’ve used over the years that will help me focus on my current work goals. Another empowering message I received from the movie was when members of the X-Men team were told it was okay to unleash their full power and to have no fear. Witnessing the visual wonder and spectacle of these heroes take action excited me and made me feel enthusiastic to do the same with my own talents and goals! This too is positive emotional energy flowing!

X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)

The superhero action film, X-Men: Apocalypse, is about the emergence of an ancient God-like mutant called Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) and the uniting of the young X-Men team to battle him and his four super powered recruits. This epic installment is part of the ongoing cinematic series of the X-Men comic books and showcases many of the visually stunning powers of popular characters like Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), Storm (Alexandra Shipp) and many more. See: movie trailer

One of the highlights of the previous film, X-Men: Days of Future Past, was the fantastic, inventive sequence starring Quicksilver (Evan Peters) and he has another thrilling standout scene in this movie! Returning characters and actors also have their moments to shine such as Professor X (James McAvoy), Magento (Michael Fassbender), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) and Beast (Nicholas Hoult). There are other surprises for X-Men fans so I highly recommend you see this on the big screen as soon as possible. And do your best not to be influenced by any reviews or ratings as you may experience your own inspirational moments.

Inspiring Themes:
• Perseverance
• Resilience
• Unleash Inner Strengths, Talents & Gifts
• Be Fearless
• Leadership & Teamwork
• Sense of Family & Community
• Supportive Relationships

Being passionate about something fills you with positive emotional energy. Loving the X-Men comic books growing up fed my imagination and filled me with enthusiasm and optimism! So when I experience a movie version of something I loved growing up it amplifies that positive energy within me and I leave the theatre with my batteries fully recharged. I am then excited to implement the ideas and strategies the movie heroes inspired me to unleash! You can do the same as well.

You can increase your positive emotional energy anytime, all you have to do is be aware of the activities that love doing and that bring you joy. And embrace the movies or subjects you feel strongly about even if others disagree. Be confident in your choices. Your thoughts and feelings are your own. Be empowered by what excites you!
