Tip#823: Resilience Resources, Part 9 – Super Bowl – Invincible
I had a couple of tough days due to SAD/depression symptoms and other personal challenges. Some negative words were also said to me leading to feelings that I’ve let friends and family down over the years. I began questioning my worthiness and felt my self-esteem deflate. Then on a dark grey cold day as snow started to fall hard I too felt I was falling into hopelessness. My indestructible optimism was waning.
I really needed a movie to lift me up and since Super Bowl Sunday is coming up (as of this writing) I wanted to see an inspiring football film I hadn’t seen before. Synchronistic magic from the universe gave me a big supportive hug and guided me to seeing Disney’s Invincible. It was the perfect movie medicine I needed to lift my spirits back up!
The sports film, Invincible, is based on the true story of 30 year old part-time bartender Vince Papale (Mark Wahlberg) who ends up playing for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1976. The film is beautifully photographed and captures the excitement of what it’s like to receive an amazing, huge, thrilling, life changing opportunity. See: movie trailer
This highly inspiring film shows Papale’s determination to persevere during a grueling training camp, the final cuts process and the negativity towards him from his entire team. Equally important are scenes showing Papale’s moments of doubt and loss of self-worth during the training camp process. During this time he also kept a note written to him by his ex-wife who recently left him. It read…
You’ll never go anywhere
You’ll never make any money
and you’ll never make a name for yourself.
What inspired me most was how Papale showed supreme resilience to the physical pain he endured AND the mental pain inflicted by negative words and people attacking him from every angle. This movie hero reminded me of my own inner strengths of resilience and indestructible optimism while re-activating my own “desire and determination” to have the life and work I want!
In your darkest times find inspiration to keep moving forward even if it comes from a cinematic source. Make movies one of your Resilience Resources! Let the uplifting story and hero free you of the stress and negative thoughts and people from your workplace and in life. Movie heroes are always there to remind you that YOU are invincible!
