Tip#827: Follow Your Heart - Top Five

Depression can be very debilitating whether it is situational depression or mild clinical depression. But I believe that if you are passionate about something you can fuel your enthusiasm and drive to move forward even if just for a moment. For example no matter what lows I’ve experienced over the years my love for movies and for writing this blog always re-energizes my indestructible optimism. Following my heart refocuses me on joy rather than despair.

Check out this fascinating video clip of motivational speaker Tony Robbins help show a woman a method of transforming out of a depressed state quickly. It's an example of how focusing on a positive, feel good emotion (in this case a memory of an exciting sexual experience!) can break you out of a negative mind state. See: video clip

Top Five (2014)

The comedy film, Top Five, is about a successful movie star, Andre Allen (Chris Rock), at a crossroads in his career. With the help of a reporter named Chelsea (Rosario Dawson) Andre reveals his true stories and feelings about his life. All the performances are fantastic and funny and the film is filled with cameos like Whoopi Goldberg, Adam Sandler, Jerry Seinfeld and Ben Vereen. See: movie trailer

Rock also wrote and directed this film that seems to mirror elements of his own life experiences in hilarious scenes and also very heartfelt moments. And despite feeling challenged, his character Andre allows Chelsea to bring out his “rigorous honesty” about the reasons behind his unhappiness with his work and his love life. They end up helping each other get to the heart of each others problems and more forward with passion, joy and enthusiasm.

Following your heart is a matter of focus and when you do this your passion can flow and re-energize you no matter what adversities you face at work or in life. Be inspired by movie heroes that find the courage to change their life and follow what’s in their heart.  Be inspired to bring out your own "rigorous honesty"!
