Tip#756: Top Feel-Good Movies, Pt 1 - Fusia Magazine 5th Anniversary Party - Million Dollar Arm

I love going to sneak preview movies and I also love inspiring, feel good films based on true stories. So I was thrilled when I saw both in one that was part of Fusia Magazine’s 5th Anniversary Party at the Scotiabank Theatre.

The first part of the special event was a cocktail reception where I enjoyed seeing some old friends and made new ones. After some delicious samosas and sparkling wine we were guided to the screening of Disney’s Million Dollar Arm.

There was such strong feeling of family with the predominantly South Asian Fusia crowd and it just felt good to be part of this celebration and part of the audience for a film I’ve been eager to see since I saw the trailer. I knew this was going to be a great feel-good movie!

Million Dollar Arm (2014)

The biographical sports drama film, Million Dollar Arm, is based on a true story about sports agent J.B. Bernstein (Jon Hamm) who goes to India to find raw talent to become the first Indian baseball players in the Major Leagues. Dinesh Patel (Madhur Mittal) and Rinku Singh (Suraj Sharma) have their lives changed as they come to the US for training. Bernstein also transforms his attitude towards life and business in this highly entertaining and highly inspirational movie. See: movie trailer

Along with fantastic and funny performances by all the leads and supporting cast (Aasif Mandvi, Lake Bell, Alan Arkin, Pitobash Tripathy) the movie highlights insights for improving business such as creative thinking and marketing. Plus there are uplifting life lessons like persistence with a goal, the value of extended family, embracing different cultures and the importance of commitment.

This film is enjoyable on so many levels and I highly recommend seeing it especially if you have a vision, dream or goal that seems impossible. This feel good film will encourage you to persevere even when others say what you are doing cannot be done.
