Tip#1220: The Recipe For Resilience, Perseverance & Indestructible Optimism, Part 26 – The Queen’s Gambit

This is Day 229 of the COVID-19 pandemic here in Toronto, Canada.

It always thrills and amazes me whenever I receive answers to problems when I take the time to close my eyes, quiet my mind and simply let go of the problem. I’ve been doing this recently and my mornings become so productive after I spend my waking moments in bed, breathing to centre myself and then ask the universe for guidance. Afterwards I feel so much calmer and confident and my next solution steps become clear.

For me, this process is a combination of prayers, affirmations and meditations that reaffirm my power to access answers within me. This also allows me to be free of any stress and anxieties keeping me from activating my creative visualization powers! This is an ability everyone has and that I’ve written about many times featuring Gold Medalist athletes like Michael Phelps who are big believers in this process (see tip#568 and #831).

Last week I was experiencing the onset of seasonal depression (SAD) symptoms and I was guided to watch a new Netflix mini series about a chess prodigy. The first episode immediately comforted my mood and then took me on a fantastic, inspirational experience that synchronistically celebrated the power of creative visualization!

The Queen’s Gambit (2020)

The mini series, sports drama, The Queen’s Gambit, follows the life of an orphan chess prodigy named Beth Harmon (Anya Taylor-Joy/adult and Isla Johnston/child) on her journey to become the world's greatest chess player. This highly entertaining series has many memorable moments and performances by a stellar cast. It’s also visually beautiful featuring authentic, nostalgic décor and fashions of the 50’s and 60’s in the USA, Mexico, Paris and Russia.

The cast includes:
• Bill Camp as Mr. Shaibel, custodian/janitor
• Moses Ingram as Jolene, a fellow orphan
• Marielle Heller as Mrs. Alma Wheatley and adoptive mother
• Jacob Fortune-Lloyd as Townes, a fellow chess player
• Harry Melling as Harry Beltik, a chess competitor
• Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Benny Watts, a major competitor
• Marcin Dorociński as Vasily Borgov, the Russian world champion chess player

I fell in love with this mini-series! There were so many life lessons and inspirational moments that I later watched it a second time. I related with Beth as an orphaned child feeling isolated and then later relished in how her life changed as her chess skills developed with each tournament she entered and won.

Beth’s true gift was her ability to visualize future chess game outcomes and multiple possibilities (enhanced with certain "vitamins"). At night in bed she would use the ceiling as the chessboard or she would close her eyes and go inward for answers. And how the series presents these scenes visually are thrilling and cool to see!

There are many inspiring themes that I resonated deeply with especially the idea of supportive relationships, teamwork, family, mentorships and unexpected allies.
