Tip#1135: The Power of Emotional Release, Part 4 – Trapped Emotions – Creed 2

“Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.”
Buddha

In continuing my journey inwards on self-empowerment (see Tip#1134), I have been researching the nature of anger so I can learn to express this repressed or trapped emotion that’s been bottled up for decades. But first I need to recognize the different types of anger the moment it happens like: irritation, annoyance, frustration, resentment or impatience. I’m training myself to be hyper aware in these moments because trapped emotions can be the root cause for diseases and depression (see Tip#839).

At the same time I’m also learning that anger is a powerful energy and passion that can help achieve goals by fueling perseverance, tenacity and an assertive leadership quality. Anger is a vital emotion. Knowing this helps me see the benefits of anger expressed in the movies. Both heroes and villains can clearly demonstrate the positives and consequences of expressing anger.

Creed 2 (2019)

The sports drama film, Creed 2, continues the story of Adonis Johnson Creed (Michael B. Jordan), son of Apollo Creed of the Rocky movie series. Under the training of Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), heavyweight contender Adonis faces off against Viktor Drago (Florian "Big Nasty" Munteanu), son of Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) from Rocky 4. This engaging, thrilling movie also stars Tessa Thompson, Dolph Wood Harris, and Phylicia Rashad.

This chapter of the Rocky/Creed series features all the entertaining and inspirational elements you've come to expect. Plus it had a strong sense of nostalgia with the return of Ivan Drago and other surprises! Anger is also demonstrated in how it fueled the life long training of Viktor and his father Ivan after suffering the disgrace of losing his match with Rocky in Russia back in 1985. He passes this anger onto his son and uses it for driving his intention to be an unbeatable force.

On the other hand Adonis shows how he harnesses his anger to battle Viktor but with unfortunate limitations and consequences. Rocky, once again, mentors him on retraining to fight from a new perspective instead of anger alone. And when it came to a rematch Adonis is able to accept repeated physical pain and unleash his anger and rage at the right, strategic moment.

Understanding and embracing emotions like anger can be a challenge and yet has tremendous rewards. You just need to learn the steps to releasing emotions if you feel they are trapped. Or understand the different ways of harnessing this energy. Then you’ll be on your way to winning the battles you face in your life and work!
