I really feel blessed to be born with gifts and talents for art, photography, music and writing! It has allowed me to express myself and creatively show how I saw the world growing up as a shy kid. I then had a successful illustration career applying these skills and then went on to write music, motivational presentations, books and this movie blog!
There is also a cathartic, healing quality to engaging in the arts and, in some ways, also an obsession to be creative. It is a passion and drive that other people in the arts could fully identify with. That’s why certain movie heroes that feature this same passion, drive and obsession can be inspiring for how far they go to achieve their dreams and goals.
The Public Eye (1992)
The drama film, The Public Eye, is about a 1940’s tabloid photographer Leon "The Great Bernzini" Bernstein (Joe Pesci) specializing in crime scenes and gets a dangerous offer from nightclub owner Kay (Barbara Hershey). This highly engaging movie features outstanding performances by the cast and is
loosely based on the New York Daily News photographer Arthur "Weegee" Fellig. See: movie trailer
This is one of Pesci’s best performances and is heartfelt for his mutual attraction with Hershey’s character. He also demonstrates overwhelming passion and love for photographing the dark sides of life and wanting to have a book published of his works. The era of the 1940’s is also wonderfully captured as is the intriguing vintage photography equipment and developing process featured. I highly recommend this film for those who love photography or the creative arts!
