"Unless someone like you cares a whole lot, nothing is going to get better, it's not."
Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax (2012)
Four days ago I wrote (in tip#525) about the KONY 2012 video that has been viral online and increasing awareness around the world about the help African children need. The views on Youtube has increased to over 81,900,00. So in four days 4 million more people are now conscious about a very important issue.
Recently I went to see a matinee screening of Dr. Seuss' The Lorax and in the front row were a group of young kids talking consistently throughout the film. Instead of being irritated I was actually amazed to hear them identifying the important issues the story was bringing up. For example they were eager to point out the villains chopping down trees and destroying nature. This movie was helping young children wake up to critical issues on our planet!
Dr. Seuss' The Lorax (2012)
The animated movie The Lorax is based on Dr. Seuss' story of a 12 year old boy Ted (Zac Efron) searching to find a real tree in a town where non exists. He meets The Once-ler (Ed Helms) who tells Ted his story of how, as a young businessman, destroyed an entire land of trees in order to make products he sold called the Thneed. The Lorax (Danny DeVito) appears at the start of the destruction and "speaks for the trees" pleading to the Once-ler to stop his actions. See: movie trailer
The story is a fable about the danger corporate greed has on nature and our environment. Through colourful, whimsical characters and catchy songs this film entertains AND educates audiences of harsh realities we face in our economy and our natural resources. This movie can help children learn about the world they are living in and hopefully become passionate about making positive changes.
Movies have the power to wake us up to important messages about our selves and our world. Let yourself be moved by these films and, if your passion is stirred, take some action for positive change. Whatever age you are you can make a difference! And once you’ve woken to a meaningful cause do your best not to ever shut your eyes again!
