Tip#784: Toronto in the Movies - The F Word (What If)

I love living in Toronto! It’s a great movie and food town and those are my greatest passions. Plus most of my friends and family are here to share these passions with! The summer is alive with food festivals like Taste of the Danforth in Greek town and Festival of South Asia in Little India. And we have so many delicious multicultural restaurants to choose from! I also recently checked out the Scotiabank Buskerfest along Yonge St. with exciting street performers.

Many movies have been filmed in Toronto doubling in for other city locations such as A Christmas Story, The Black Stallion, Good Will Hunting, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Kick Ass, X-Men, The Incredible Hulk and Cinderella Man. Then there’s films that take place in Toronto like Scott Pilgrim vs the World. And now we have a romantic comedy starring a famous boy wizard celebrating the great city of Toronto!

The F Word (What If?) (2014)

The romantic comedy film, The F Word (What If), is about Wallace (Daniel Radcliffe) who meets Chantry (Zoe Kazan) who has a long-term boyfriend but decides to have a friendship with her. The chemistry is electric between the two and the film is filled with witty, fast-paced dialogue and quirky characters. One of the characters just happens to be the city Toronto which is celebrated in almost every location scene! See: movie trailer

A specific food is also an important factor between Wallace and Chandry so this adds to the fun and magic of their special relationship. The only issue I have about this movie is the decision to release the movie in Canada as “The F Word” and it being called “What If” in the US and UK! Whatever this entertaining romcom is called where you live I highly recommend you check it out. You’ll also see how beautiful my city is!

  4. Hi Candice, yes come and visit Toronto anytime! And yes title change is just confusing! I imagine even more so for cast who are being interviewed in different countries!

Apparently reshoots were requested before release as Radcliffe's character used the F bomb alot! More here: http://www.cbc.ca/news/arts/daniel-radcliffe-on-fixing-the-f-word-for-americans-1.2742809
