Tip#762: Learning from Mistakes - Edge of Tomorrow

The romantic comedy Groundhog Day is one of my top favourite movies of all time! It is also a key film I highly recommend in my motivational talks as an important self-growth tool. It’s about learning from mistakes. The movie can help people to look at the repetitive issues or failures that keep coming up in their lives and how they provide solutions of breaking free and achieving goals.

So I was excited to attend a sneak preview of a science fiction version of Groundhog Day and very happy to say that Edge of Tomorrow is a highly entertaining action film combined with important life lessons of learning from mistakes! Successes such as basketball player Michael Jordan and inventor Thomas Edison are excellent examples of going through repetitive failures only to persevere towards their goals like the hero in Edge of Tomorrow.

“I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” Michael Jordan

“I have not failed 10,000 times. I have not failed once. I have succeeded in proving that those 10,000 ways will not work. When I have eliminated the ways that will not work, I will find the way that will work.” Thomas Edison

Edge of Tomorrow (2014)

The science fiction film, Edge of Tomorrow, is about Major William Cage (Tom Cruise) caught in a time loop and reliving a specific day of a doomed battle with an invading alien race. The film is a cross between Groundhog Day and Starship Troopers and is filled with exciting action scenes as well as time loop sequences that will keep your mind riveted. See: movie trailer

The life lessons revolve around Cage’s unusual journey of personal growth. He is first introduced as a coward lacking confidence or courage. When he is thrown into his time loop and discovers his goal for breaking free he can only learn from his mistakes in order to move closer and closer to his goal. Along the way he develops his confidence, courage and leadership abilities.

Repeated failures and mistakes are all part of finding success in life, career and work. Be inspired by movie heroes and real-life success stories to persevere with your own repeating challenges!
