Tip#111: Celebrate Food! Part 3 - Big Night
Food can be a scintillating world of taste delights. Food excites the senses and can do wonders to lift the spirit. It can make life a delicious journey and can bring people together in a united joy.
Food for me is a celebration every time I eat anything. I do my best to eat slowly to savor each energizing morsel activating my taste buds. Whether it's the juiciness of an orange or a succulent piece of a crisp roast duck or a spoonful of a hearty, homemade soup I always celebrate!
I also celebrate food in the lyrics of a dreamy song I wrote and recorded called "Where Angels Kiss The Air". The lyrics and music reflect the playful, sensual delights of food and of soulmates on planet earth. Click here to read the lyrics and hear a song sample.
Food is a great passion of mine and is up there with my passion for movies. The topic of food as a passion permeates my workshops. During my recent free seminar demo at the Expansion Celebration open house I asked people to raise their hand if they loved food. Many hands shot up enthusiastically revealing individuals that shared a passion for food!
Food Connects
My friend and the personal development coach I had mentioned in the first part of this "Celebrate" series of tips had been in the audience and I was compelled to point her out. I shared how much of a glorious chef she was and her passion for the preparation, presentation and sharing of food.
I discussed how this passion had bonded us as friends and feeds our enthusiasm and energy in life (pun intended). I shared with the crowd that I call her the "Scone Queen" because she has a special passion for creating these taste treats. She told me the next day that right after my workshop several people immediately approached her to ask about her scones! Sharing passions truly connects you with others.
Food Movies
There are many movies about food to tantalize your senses. Here are some of my favourites.
Tampopo
Tampopois a Japanese film that celebrates the art of preparing and enjoying Japanese dishes. The main story line involves a trucker who helps a woman named Tampopo to set up the perfect fast-food noodle restaurant. Their journey takes them to discovering several individuals that express their own unique joys revolving around food.
Big Night
The film, Big Nightstars Stanley Tucci and Tony Shalhoub as two brothers who've emigrated from Italy to open an Italian restaurant in America. They want to drum up more business so they prepare for one big celebration of food. Their guests that night and you the viewer are treated to a sumptuous visual feast.
The preparation of the highlight dish is called Timpano and is a breathtaking sight to behold. The pasta is hand-made and rolled and interlaced with the delicious ingredients of provolone cheese cubes, hard boiled eggs, meatballs, tomato sauce and romano cheese. It is a delight to watch the delicate and loving preparation!
And you do get to watch everyone eat the magnificent feast. You can almost taste the ecstatic sensations through the performer's blissful reactions on screen.
Ratatouille
Disney's animated film Ratatouilleis about a rat named Remy who has a passion for good food. He eventually finds himself in a famous restaurant in Paris where he gets to show off his talents as a fantastic chef. Again you get to see the reactions of the characters transform into joy when they taste Remy's dishes.
There is even one great scene where a food critic tastes a classic, simple dish especially prepared by Remy. With one bite he is instantly transported back to a happy childhood moment where his mother had fed him a similar dish that filled his soul with eternal joy. I wrote more about this uplifting experience in Tip#20: Comfort Food For Your Soul.
So celebrate the timeless sensations of food! Let the myriad of tastes you love transport you into states of bliss and even happy childhood moments. Celebrate each bite you take of your next meal by chewing slowly and letting the tastes and textures fill you with a juicy energy burst.
And treat yourself to a favourite dish whenever you feel down. Treating yourself can energize you every time. Celebrate the foods you love and the like-minded souls that share your joys. Life is meant to be savoured and celebrated together!
