This was an extra special week because of two unexpected gifts I received! The first was doing an interview and photo shoot for a major newspaper article on my experience with clinical depression and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). The second was finding a gift from a friend in my email for a concert ticket to see my favourite band ELO coming to Toronto in 2018!
I felt so grateful, excited and blessed for these wonderful gifts and felt they are somehow connected with the daily subconscious reprogramming exercises I wrote about in tip#1068. Just before bed and in the early mornings I’ve been listening to subliminal meditation recordings with themes such as overcome fear, feeling worthy and loving yourself unconditionally. Plus these recordings included the embedded affirmations that always felt empowering to read.
I believe that this new practice has been slowly altering my subconscious belief systems as well as the positive energy I radiate. The act of believing is an important key to begin with! And during this time two movies synchronistically came into my life to support my current research on reprogramming subconscious beliefs that have been holding me back.
Evan Almighty (2007)
The comedy film, Evan Almighty, is about congressman Evan Baxter (Steve Carell) and his prayer to help change the world and how God (Morgan Freeman) asks him to build a modern day Noah’s ark. Despite Evan’s immense reluctance to do something he believed was ridiculous and impossible he eventually realizes that this task is just part of achieving his dream. He just needed to believe in all the extraordinary, synchronistic messages being sent to him. See: movie trailer
Dragonfly (2002)
The supernatural drama film, Dragonfly, is about grieving doctor, Joe Darrow (Kevin Costner), being contacted by his late wife through repeating images of dragonflies and his patients’ near death experiences. All these synchronicities push him to opening up his mind to believing these extraordinary circumstances and eventually discover something wonderful by the end of the film. See: movie trailer
These two films really helped inspire me to continue believing in extraordinary signs and synchronicities in my life and confirmed that I’m on the right path in life. What also made me smile at the universe was discovering that both movies were directed by the same director, Tom Shadyac! That realization sent a little, joyful shiver up my spine and was just another confirmation to stay on this course!
Believing in something that appears unbelievable can be a challenge and even a threat to a belief system. And yet if you keep receiving synchronistic signs pointing you down an unknown road then find the courage to at least explore it. This road may be brimming with all the answers and solutions to problems you’ve asking for in the first place!

HOW TO SEE MOVIES AS INSPIRATIONAL LEARNING TOOLS - Over 1,000 Movie Tips For Dealing with Depression & Difficult Times

Tip#1068: You Can Rewrite Your Life, Part 6 - Justice League
Since I had written about facing fears in tip#1066 I continued experiencing a rapid flow of synchronicities confirming that reprogramming subconscious beliefs was my primary goal to focus on. And this led me to reviewing the Justice League movie in an unusual matter since it connects with my current discoveries!
Dr. Bruce Lipton, The Biology of Belief
As mentioned in tip#1066 I was recommended to Dr. Matt James’s webinar which then led me to purchasing his new Kindle book, Mental & Emotional Release. In the webinar he mentioned biologist Bruce Lipton and his book, The Biology of Belief and I was excited to learn more about his teachings through his lively Youtube interviews. In one video he reminded me that the subconscious controls 95% of our behavior and decisions.
I was then reminded of the perfect metaphor showing a tip of a visible iceberg representing the conscious mind and the massive bulk of it hidden below the surface representing the subconscious mind. It can seem overwhelmingly impossible to deal with any hidden, destructive programs below the surface but thankfully Lipton recommends a three step solution for rewriting the subconscious.
1) Hypnosis - subliminal tapes before bed & early morning
2) Repetition - affirmations, actions
3) Energy Psychology/Belief Change Modification
See video interview: Bruce Lipton, Rewrite Subconscious Programming Quickly
Vortex Success Subliminal Brain Wave Programs
The mention of hypnosis intrigued me to explore first and discovered a treasure chest of subliminal recordings from Vortex Success on Youtube. They have an extensive audio library with themes such as Attract Love, Money & Abundance and Depression & Anxiety. Within each theme are sub-categories that include a description and list of subliminal affirmations embedded in the soothing, meditative music.
I found the lists of affirmations so empowering that just reading them made me feel confident and strong! Listen to sample & read list of affirmations: Rewire Your Brain To Stay Motivated Focused And Goal Oriented
The Orville TV Show (2017)
Episode 10: “Firestorm”
While I was implementing the subliminal audio recordings I was amazed at another synchronistic moment. The Orville TV show has become an instant favourite show for me because it’s a spoof on the classic Star Trek series and yet actually retains Star Trek’s spirit and optimism in comparison to the latest TV show Star Trek: Discovery (which I also love!). The most recent episode astounded me because it was a mirror for my research into reprogramming subconscious blocks! The episode was about the ship’s Security Chief, Lt. Kitan, dealing with a fear of fire.
*Spoiler Alert!*
What unfolds is Lt. Kitan’s unique solution to program the ship’s holographic room to face her fear of fire and other phobias such as spiders and falling from heights. The key for her was to have a short term memory wipe to forget that she set up the program and think that the holograms are real. It’s timely stories like this that simply fuel my enthusiasm to continue on this path! It then continued with seeing the Justice League movie on opening day.
Justice League (2017)
The superhero film, Justice League, is about the formation of DC Comics heroes Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, Cyborg and Superman. Despite mixed reviews and numerous flaws I was able to enjoy the movie thanks to dramatic rewrites and reshoots to the film. See: movie trailer 3 (with changes)
It had been reported that director Zack Snyder’s original cut of the film was so poor that they brought in writer & director Joss Whedon to re-write and ultimately reshoot about 20% of the movie. Snyder’s original vision was dark while Whedon’s is much lighter and fun as demonstrated in his other films for Marvel, The Avengers and its sequel. This merging has caused much controversy amongst critics and fans.
However, because I disliked Snyder’s previous film Batman V Superman for it’s dark, pessimistic vision, I welcomed Whedon’s re-writes. Apparently all of Superman’s scenes were reshot and finally I felt his heroic optimism had returned that was missing in his two previous film appearances! Even his costume was much brighter. Plus the original film composer was replaced with Danny Elfman who incorporated his iconic Batman theme from Tim Burton’s Batman films as well as John William’s famous theme from Superman: The Movie. It was a thrill to hear these themes I've loved over the years!

So for me these cinematic rewrites were yet another metaphor and mirror for the light and optimism I wish to reprogram into my subconscious mind. All these synchronicities have excited me to continue experimenting with transforming that hidden iceberg within my mind.
If you are seeking solutions for chronic problems that keep coming up in your life then be open to any concepts that excite you to explore. Feel enthusiasm to rewrite your life with new methods and tools. Enjoy your journey for creating a new empowered life for yourself!

Tip#1067: Random Acts of Kindness, Part 4 – Top 10 Inspiring Movies for Kindness
I remember on a cold, grey February morning that I wasn’t feeling well but later felt uplifted and transformed as if tropical sunshine suddenly warmed my heart! At the time I was experiencing depression symptoms that could have been seasonal affective discover (SAD) or winter blues. Whatever it was it didn’t stop me from doing something nice for a stranger because that day was February 17th, Random Acts of Kindness Day.
I decided to buy a bunch of delicious shortbread cookies I loved that had a chunk of chocolate in the centre and gave them out to local homeless people. One man sitting in the freezing weather was so grateful. He said shortbread cookies were his favourites and his mom used to make them growing up. This touched my heart and was happy I made his day a little brighter! That’s the moment my mood shifted into joy. I was so touched that I gave him an extra cookie!
Three Results from an Act of Kindness
This man’s story turned out to be his own random act of kindness for me that lifted my spirits and brightened my day. It reminded me of what Dr. Wayne Dyer wrote in his book, The Power of Intention…
The positive effect of kindness on the immune system and on the increased production of serotonin in the brain has been proven in research studies. Serotonin is a naturally occurring substance in the body that makes us feel more comfortable, peaceful, and even blissful. In fact, the role of most antidepressants is to stimulate the production of serotonin chemically, helping to ease depression.
Research has shown that a simple act of kindness directed toward another improves the functioning of the immune system and stimulates the production of serotonin in both the recipient of the kindness AND the person extending the kindness. Even more amazing is that persons observing the act of kindness have similar beneficial results. Imagine this! Kindness extended, received, or observed beneficially impacts the physical health and feelings of everyone involved!
I ended up sharing my story with the homeless man on social media knowing that it would impact the feelings of my contacts so I posted a photo of the cookies and what happened. See: Instagram post
Real-life stories as well as movie examples of kindness also inspires me. Here are wonderful examples for acts of kindness in cinema I’ve put together. I hope my top 10 movies inspires your imagination of what you could do to make someone’s day!

Tip#1066: Facing Your Fears, Part 2 - Thor: Ragnarok
When I finished my new website THE ART OF EMMANUEL LOPEZ I started to identify some deep-rooted fears I buried about my art that I believe have been holding me back in areas of my life and career. I also realized these fears surface every few years feeling like the time loop in the film Groundhog Day. I keep facing and burying these blocks over and over again.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
“Magic To Make The Sanest Man Go Mad”
This epiphany happened the same day I watched the latest episode of Star Trek: Discovery called “Magic To Make The Sanest Man Go Mad”. It was a fantastic episode of the crew trying to break out of a time loop much like Groundhog Day. In order to break free the series lead character, Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), must admit a secret about herself that no one knows about. This moment touched me and is also part of why I love this controversial new Star Trek series. Each episode has relatable life lessons, teamwork themes as well as visually stunning cinematic look!
Happy Death Day (2017)
Synchronicities continued to flow at a rapid pace as I felt compelled to watch the horror film Happy Death Day. It’s another entertaining take on the Groundhog Day time loop concept and I was highly aware the universe was telling me something important! Once again the hero learns through every loop something new to finally break free. She had to face her fears over and over again. In doing so she increased her knowledge, resourceful thinking, confidence and courage.
Stranger Things 2 (2017)
Soon afterwards I felt my intuition tell me to watch Netflix’s Stranger Things 2. As each episode unfolded I could feel something slowly awaken inside me with the show’s concepts of a darkness growing below the town like giant black vines. One of the main kids Will (Noah Schnapp) is psychically connected with this darkness and is in physical pain when this creature is attacked.
Thankfully he is able to sketch hundreds of drawings of what it looks like. How his family and friends piece together all these drawings is brilliant and staggering. When the pattern is revealed I realized this was a huge mirror for the darkness within me. It’ll keep growing and growing if I don’t deal with it.
I was realizing that my deep-rooted fears are like the monstrous underground roots of the dark creature in Stranger Things 2 and will continue to grow if I don’t stop it. I’ve also experienced stomach pains throughout the years but they have increased recently. This is why I’ve been exploring a high alkaline diet (see: tip#1056) to solve this and depression symptoms. I now believe these pains are connected with these subconscious fears or trapped emotions I’ve already been exploring to heal (see tip#839).
Meditation & Prayer for Guidance
First steps I’ve been taking to face my fears is in my morning meditations and prayers. I’ve been asking for guidance and any key therapies I can immediately apply. I’ve been using my Future Self meditation (see tip#759) as well as a new guided meditation with beautiful, cinematic music which I recommend: MEET YOUR SPIRIT GUIDE. Guided Meditation & Spiritual Retreat for your Soul
Very quickly, two results came out of my meditations. The first was having a friend on Facebook connect me with a free webinar by Dr. Matt James talking about his therapy called Mental Emotional Release. While listening to this one hour discussion I could feel a light of epiphany flicker inside me as he talked about the priority of facing and healing unresolved deep-rooted issues if we are to fully move forward in life.
Article by Dr. Matt James: Here’s a Quick Way to Ditch Emotional Baggage
All of these events helped me start facing my fears and admit to myself that the subconscious issues within me will continue to sabotage the success I want in life and work. This week was so surreal in what unfolded and this led to the second result. It was the perfect timing of seeing a superhero film on opening day that mirrored the idea of facing the darkness as well as help me re-energize in a fantastical, colourful world for a few hours!
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
The superhero film, Thor: Ragnarok, continues the story of Marvel Comics’s Thor (Chris Hemsworth) who must face his evil sister Hela, The Goddess of Death (Cate Blanchett) seeking to destroy his homeworld Asgard. This highly entertaining, visually rich and creative film also has a humorous tone thanks to the cast that includes Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo, Tessa Thompson, Jeff Goldblum, Anthony Hopkins and the director Taika Waititi voicing the hilarious CGI character Korg. See: movie trailer
The first benefit of seeing this film was that it was super fun! I felt immersed in a uniquely flavoured space opera thanks to New Zealand director and actor Taika Waititi and an 80’s synth soundtrack. I loved the use of Led Zepplin’s Immigrant song in the film and the trailer! The different planets featured were also so sumptuous to the eyes and Hela’s character was both frightening and riveting on-screen. The surprise cameos were also a delight!
The second benefit came from recognizing the clear separation of the dark characters from the light that mirrored my recent recognition of the hidden dark parts of myself. Hela’s existence was hidden from Thor and his brother Loki by their father King Odin which she revealed with a painting of herself being covered up on the ceiling of the Asgard Palace. This revelation mirrored the unearthing of my subconscious fears. I was actually enjoying these revelations! Once again an amazing cinematic experience entertained, inspired and empowered me to know that I am on the right path.
I also need to share that this movie reminded me that teamwork is always key to success. Teamwork with trusted allies, friends and family was a big factor for facing overwhelming challenges especially those that seemed hopeless. Teamwork and supportive relationships was an important theme not only in Thor: Ragnarok but also in the Star Trek: Discovery episode, Happy Death Day film and Stranger Things 2 series that I was compelled to watch this week.
So remember that facing your own fears and darkness doesn’t have to done alone. You have the resources already in front of you in the form of inspiration from films and TV shows you enjoy as well as people, friends and family that could be part of your success team. And if you really feel stuck then be open to prayer and meditation to receive answers. This will truly be proof that you are never alone in your problems!
