Tip#787: Find Confidence in Who You Are – IMAX Preview Screening at TIFF’14 - The Equalizer

I was very excited to receive tickets to the IMAX preview screening of Denzel Washington’s film The Equalizer at The Toronto International Film Festival recently! We lined up 90 minutes in the hot sun prior to the start time and it just added to the buzz and electric energy of being at the film festival. This was a special screening so IMAX treated each and every one of us to free popcorn, drinks and a promotional T-Shirt! See: photos

This year I’ve been doing more and more photographing of events like this one because it is a passion to share my experiences with others. Also it is who I am. I loved photography so much in high school that I became editor-in-chief of the yearbook for 2 years! What I loved was taking photos of all the different groups at school, designing the pages and writing the text to tell a story of this time in our lives. Ultimately it was about bringing a sense of community through the year book that would hold warm memories for a lifetime.

These interests of mine have evolved into my latest social media project called “Inspiring Film Recommendations from Movie Lovers Around the World”. See more in tip#785. I just know I was born to inspire others and help build community, team spirit and teamwork. Synchronistically, there was a quote at the beginning of The Equalizer that mirrored my confidence in my passion projects…

“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” Mark Twain

The Equalizer (2014)

The action thriller film, The Equalizer, is based on the television series about a solitary, quiet man named Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) who slowly reveals he is so much more than he appears. Without telling anymore of the plot I can say that I saw this film not knowing anything except it was the same director as Training Day and expected intense violence. And though there are graphic scenes the movie blew me away with how exciting and inspiring McCall was as a new movie hero. And as a cinematic role model for resilience, perseverance, confidence, wisdom, resourcefulness, leadership and altruism.

Inspiring Themes:
• Resilience
• Perseverance
• Indestructible Optimism
• Confidence
• Wisdom
• Resourcefulness
• Strategic Thinking
• Leadership
• Self-awareness
• Altruism

McCall is all about doing the right thing and helping others being bullied and victimized. And his confidence in who he is, his skill sets and expertise is so strong it oozes out in every scene he is in. He radiates confidence and just knows why he was born. If you can handle some graphic violence you will discover many inspirational and motivational insights from The Equalizer. There may be a movie message you’ll receive to help you find your own confidence in who you are!
