Tip#556: There Will Be A Happy Ending – Definitely, Maybe

Will: "I'm happy."
Maya: "Trust me, dad. You're not happy."

As I wrote in the previous post tip#555 I started to read The Abundance Book and now following its 40 Day Prosperity Plan. It's to help transform and clear my subconscious beliefs on lack. I believe the daily exercises have shaken loose my darkest fears about lack with unexpected feelings of hopelessness and despair.

At the time I didn't know what was happening but thankfully I was led to seeing a movie that brought me comfort and insights. I was also feeling upset that my life wasn’t where I thought it would be right now and this film's hero mirrored my feelings. Once again a movie lifted me up from despair.

Definitely, Maybe (2008)

The romantic comedy Definitely, Maybe is about a political consultant Will (Ryan Reynolds) in the midst of a divorce telling the story of how he met his wife to his 11 year old daughter Maya (Abigail Breslin). He says it is complicated but Maya insists on hearing it and what unfolds are 3 relationships Will had over 14 years. See: movie trailer

Will reveals that his life and relationships had so many highs and lows that Maya makes him see that he is not happy now even though he says he is. Through her eyes she helps Will recognize where his heart truly lies with the 3 women in his story. His journey helped inspire me in that, despite my long journey continuing, EVERYTHING will work out magically and beautifully.

Life can get complicated and it can sometimes make you feel despair and hopeless. Just remember that you are not alone in your thoughts or feelings. Others have been through the same pain you are in and have overcome them. Some have written stories and movies about it! Find these stories and films and they will lift your spirits and fill you with hope. Their happy endings can be your happy endings too!

Tip#555: Learn to See with New Eyes - Brave

For the first time in over a decade I have a new prescription for my eyes and am excited to have a new pair of eyeglasses. Now my vision is sharper for far distances AND I can read up close with the bifocals. Immediately after picking up my eyeglasses I went to see my friend and business coach (Patrick Bizindavyi) and meet his new baby girl. She was so beautiful! And I was seeing her with new eyes!

This was the week I also discovered an inspiring and empowering book called The Abundance Book by John Randolph Price. It is actually a very tiny book filled with big insights on allowing money and other needs and desires to flow to you. It is already helping me find the courage to look deeper into myself and face my inner blocks. So with new eyeglasses and new attitude I am looking at my surroundings AND my inner self with sharper focus!

Brave (2012)

The animated Pixar movie, Brave is about young princess Merida (Kelly Macdonald) who refuses tradition in marrying one of three sons of the neighboring clan lords. Merida gets into a heated fight with her mother, Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson) and flees into the forest. From there, the story takes a unique, tonal turn and I highly recommend you see before knowing any more!

Just know that you will be dazzled by the colourful and rich visuals of the Scottish scenery. The film's characters are also funny and provide some heartfelt moments. And you will be inspired by Merida's bravery when she faces a very frightening foe AND how she learns to see with new eyes and find the solutions to her biggest challenge.

Remember not to focus on the negatives in the life challenges you see in front of you. Instead see your obstacles with new eyes in that you are learning something about improving yourself. You are recognizing that the solutions are already inside you. It takes courage to look within into whatever thoughts are blocking your path. Be brave and the solutions you've been praying for will reveal themselves!

Tip#554: Believe in Synchronicity, Pt.2 – Jeff, Who Lives at Home – Touch TV Series

"Everyone and everything is interconnected in this universe. Stay pure of heart and you will see the signs. Follow the signs, and you will uncover your destiny."
Jeff, Who Lives at Home (2011)

As mentioned in previous blog post tip#553 I started doing Friday night movie screenings and discussions at the Alternative Thinking Bookstore here in Toronto. I call them "Synchronicity Movie Nights". Synchronicity is one of the ongoing themes and it's an opportunity for attendees to share meaningful coincidences, encounters or events that have happened to them.

One attendee recommended the film Jeff, Who Lives at Home as a great movie about synchronicity. And it was very timely when I felt compelled to watch it. Three days ago it was Father's Day and I was celebrating my Dad's memory by dunking my buttered toast into coffee like he used to. I had a great day and that evening I watched the film and there were touching messages of remembering one’s Father. So this movie about synchronicity added a heartfelt synchronicity to my life thanks to a thoughtful woman at an event discussing synchronicity!

Jeff, Who Lives at Home 2011

The comedy film Jeff, Who Lives at Home is about Jeff (Jason Segel) a 30 year-old still living at home who is inspired by the film Signs to follow synchronicities that lead to his destiny. The name "Kevin" comes into his life and Jeff believes seemingly random occurrences, such as a series of coincidences, are signs pointing to something important. Jeff stands firm on his beliefs despite nonbelievers like his brother Pat (Ed Helms) and he follows the amazing synchronicities that unfold.

Touch (2012)

There is an incredible TV series starring Kiefer Sutherland called Touch that explores synchronicity on a global and personal level. Sutherland plays Martin Bohm who has a mute, emotionally challenged son named Jake (David Mazooz) that only communicates through numbers. Each episode shows a chain reaction of random occurrences that effect specific people around the world AND ties into a puzzle Martin must solve for his son. And through his thoughts, Jake offers soulful, inspiring words of wisdom in every episode. See trailer: Touch

I believe synchronicities are the result of the universe providing us with signs or GIFTS to answers we ask or pray for. I experience synchronicities every day and I find them exciting, exhilarating and magical! Be open to your own amazing chance encounters and events that come out of the blue and yet are extremely meaningful to you! Believe in synchronicity and your life will feel like a magical journey!

Tip#553: Just Have Fun, Part 1 - Rock of Ages

I recently had an unusual week of stress where I wasn't able to focus and felt exhausted. So I wasn't sure if I could do a good job hosting my Friday night movie screening of Groundhog Day at the Alternative Thinking Bookstore here in Toronto. And yet when I got in front of the audience my playful side kicked in and I was having fun being silly! I opened by talking about superhero underwear and stinking feet that smell like Fritos chips or "cheese-toes". A girl laughed in front row and said her stinky feet smell more like salt and vinegar chips!

There was lots of laughter throughout the screening and in the discussion afterwards. I felt exhilarated and almost in awe that my mental state could transform so quickly from being unfocused and tired to an energized enthusiasm and a sharp mind. The key was I automatically turned off my head and let my heart take over. I just had fun!

Rock of Ages (2012)

The musical movie Rock of Ages is based on the Broadway musical about a small town girl named Sherrie (Julianne Hough) who travels to Los Angeles with the dream of becoming a famous singer. The fun ensemble cast includes Tom Cruise, Russell Brand, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Paul Giamatti, Malin Akerman, Alec Baldwin and newcomer Diego Boneta. They all do their own singing of 80's rock classics and people in the audience I was in were singing along too.

All the actors looked like they are having so much fun playing their outlandish characters. Tom Cruise plays Stacee Jaxx and looked so authentically immersed into the role of a tattoo covered rockstar. I loved his duet with a Rolling Stone Magazine reporter (Ackerman) which was a hilarious, sexy scene to the tune of "I Want to Know What Love is" by Foreigner. Everyone in the audience laughed out loud and so did I! We were all just having a good time with music we loved and a movie that was over the top, silly and cheesy. But it was good cheese!

Sometimes when life gets stressful you've got to treat yourself to some fun. Turn off your brain and let your heart lead the way. Let your inner kid out to play! Take a break and listen to music you loved growing up with. Go see a comedy film that will make you laugh. Whatever you do don't think too much about it! Just have fun!

Tip#552: See Life Changes As An Adventure – Moonrise Kingdom

Last week on Tuesday June 5th, the planet Venus was visible passing across the face of the sun. I'd like to think this event (with the full moon the night before) is what caused me to have a massive headache because I never get headaches! I was already stressing over new life changes over the horizon and I remembered what I had to do. I had to see my life changes as an adventure.

Moonrise Kingdom (2012)

The comedy drama Moonrise Kingdom takes place in 1965 where two 12 year old lovers runaway from their New England island town to be together. Sam (Jared Gilman) and Suzy (Kara Hayward) are both isolated kids who go on an adventure in the wilderness. This quirky, funny film has an all-star cast including Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Harvey Keitel and Bob Balaban.

This movie transported me to simple, innocent times and to happy memories of my own childhood. I felt free. And I enjoyed being a part of the adventure. It was also synchronistic that I chose to see this film the same day as my headache and Venus Transit because it had the remedies I needed:

• Entertainment and escape from a stressful day
• Gorgeous, lush wilderness scenes filled me with positive emotional energy
• Received insights to see my life changes as an adventure

If life is stressing you out remember how freeing and energizing it is to step back and have a change of scenery. Stepping outside your situation allows you to see positive perspectives of your obstacles. You will feel lighter. All you have to do is see your situation as an adventure and it WILL BE an adventure!

Tip#551: Activate Your Imagination Through Movies, Part 1 - Prometheus

I LOVE SCI FI MOVIES! When I see science fiction movies I can be filled with awe from the creativity of the story or the stunning visuals of massive spaceships and exotic alien species. I recently saw Ridley Scott's Prometheus and it embodied these aspects and much more. These factors activated my imagination and filled me with positive emotional energy for many days after!

1) Entertainment & Escape:
I was taken to another world for 2 hours! I felt I was really in the future and absolutely loved the look of the ship Prometheus and the futuristic, cool tech the crew was using. And the special effects throughout the film was breath-taking.

2) Following a Dream & Passion:
The main character Shaw is inspiring in being passionate about her dream. Her optimism and enthusiasm helps her follow it for years, into deep space and into some scary places.

3) Strong Female Characters:
Shaw faces multiple challenges throughout the film and yet demonstrates incredible strength and resilience to do whatever she needs to do to accomplish a goal.

4) Theories of Human Origins:
There are thought-provoking questions. Shaw questions the meaning of life and our origins. The film's story is partially inspired by Chariots of the Gods author Erich von Daniken's writings suggesting life on Earth was created by aliens.

5) Learning from the Movies:
The ship's android David (Michael Fassbender is amazing!) learns to be a better person through movies. You see David watch the film Laurence of Arabia and then emulate the movie hero's appearance and speech patterns. Of course I loved seeing this scene!

Prometheus (2012)

The science fiction film Prometheus is a story that takes place in the same universe as the classic Alien film of 1979 from the same visionary director Ridley Scott. In 2089, two archaeologists Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and Charlie Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green) discover signs on Earth they believe lead to extraterrestrials who created the human species. Using an ancient star map they travel on board the scientific vessel Prometheus to a planet hoping to find these "Engineers".

All I can say now is if you are expecting the film Alien is to let go of that idea or this being a prequel. There are many connections between the two movies but Prometheus is meant to be an action adventure story all its own. Just let this film take you to another world and enjoy the roller coaster ride!

Films are a powerful medium. Allow movies to inspire awe and ignite excitement into your life. Let them fill you with positive emotional energy and thought-provoking ideas. Movies are much more than entertainment and escape, they can activate your imagination!

"Big things have small beginnings."

Tip#550: Embody the Strengths of Others - The Intouchables

I always strive to be a better person and one area is to be more calm assertive in all my communications with people. That's why I am inspired by movie heroes like Daniel Craig's James Bond or TV show characters like Captain Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Both of them have strong, confident qualities I want to embody.

With this goal in mind I believe I've manifested people in my life that already embody a calm assertive quality which I am learning to bring out in myself. It certainly takes practice but when the other person knows I am learning from them then they can help in the transformation. And in return they often learn to improve something about themselves from my strengths!

The Intouchables (2011)

The comedy drama The Intouchables (French that translates as Untouchable) is a French film about the unexpected friendship between Philippe (François Cluzet), a wealthy tetraplegic, and Driss (Omar Sy), a young homeless man, hired as his personal caregiver. Philippe could have hired a much more experienced caregiver but he saw something he needed most from Driss.

Driss has street smarts and says things the way they are with no social filters. His authentic, assertive self is what boosts Philippe’s positive emotional energy and zest for life again. Driss even helps him in his romantic life! In return Philippe helps educate Driss on appreciating fine arts, classical music and what it’s like to live in luxury.

This feel-good film is currently a box office hit and cultural phenomenon in France and I hope it’s because of its overflowing motivational value. People can be inspired to learning to be a better person from others whether they are physically challenged or a homeless person.

Be open to who your teachers in life come from. If you resonate with certain movie heroes or TV show characters ask yourself if they represent strengths you wish to embody. Believe you already have the inner strengths you need and there will be someone to come into your life and help you be your best!

Tip#549: Yes, You Can Alter Your Reality - Men in Black 3

"A miracle is something that seems impossible but happens anyways,"
Men in Black 3 (2012)

This is a bonus blog post today in addition to my last post on Snow White and the Huntsman since I did back to back screenings with Men in Black 3. This movie also gave me profound insights about the dark and light realities I was experiencing last week (tip#548).

I believe we are able to create our realities with our thoughts. If we choose light or dark thoughts then either will manifest. My 3 experiences I wrote about in previous tip#548 was just more proof for me to increase my confidence that we can ALL alter current situations. And it was pure synchronicity that I followed my gut to watch Men in Black 3 because it was about altering reality. The film also had an alien character named Griffin with so much wisdom I truly felt he was speaking directly to me and giving me powerful insights!

Men in Black (2012)

The science fiction comedy Men in Black 3 continues the adventures of Agent J (Will Smith) and Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) who are secret agents monitoring extraterrestrial life on planet Earth. In this film K gets erased from history and it is up to J to go back in time to 1969 and stop the intergalactic criminal Boris the Animal from altering reality. Actor Josh Brolin is stunning as a younger Tommy Lee Jones!

Along the way J meets the alien Griffin (Michael Stuhlbarg) who is able to see all possible futures. His dialogue maybe confusing to people and yet I loved it because it was all about quantum realities and the belief that multiple paths are possible. He felt like a real-life sage magically appearing in the film to share his wisdom to anyone watching. I felt he spoke directly into my heart, encouraging me to enjoy a bright, positive future as long as I stay focused now on positive thoughts!

If your current reality appears fearful, negative or hopeless please remember it doesn't have to be so. YOU can alter your current reality and manifest a positive one. Believe that miracles can happen and it will happen. Believe you deserve better and you will! Think positive thoughts now and FEEL how good that FEELS!

Tip#548: Choose the Light Instead of the Dark - Snow White and the Huntsman

This past week I experienced some unusually dark mental states where I felt disoriented, unbalanced and unfocused. I found myself worrying over the tiniest things and imagining the worst outcomes. And I was so sure these dark scenarios would manifest, that it was surely meant to be! Thankfully I caught myself in three specific situations and I just focused on the positives, did breathing exercises, meditations and even hot showers to break the negative states of mind.

One by one each situation unfolded with no dire results and only shining outcomes. It was as if I was being tested with the "dark side of the force" like Luke Skywalker in The Empire Strikes Back. Synchronistically at the end of the week I did a screening and discussion of Peaceful Warrior where the main character Dan faced his shadow self/ego self. In both of these cinematic characters they both triumphed over their dark sides as I felt I did too.

Snow White and the Huntsman (2012)

The action, fantasy movie Snow White and the Huntsman is a darker, re-imagining of the classic fairytale. Snow White (Kristen Stewart) is kept prisoner for many years by an evil sorceress Ravenna (Charlize Theron) and later escapes with the help of a huntsman named Eric (Chris Hemsworth). You will see many elements from the classic story and yet updated with visually stunning and breathtaking effects.

The darkness of Ravenna is chillingly disturbing and all of her scenes became a mirror for the dark scenarios I had been imagining. And when Snow White discovers the enchanted forest filled with magical plant life, whimsical animals and fairies I felt that it mirrored the light of my positive thoughts I chose to focus on. And so, like many other movie heroes in many other films, when I chose the light over darkness everything worked out beautifully.

Our minds can play tricks on us making us create negative realities and making us fear something that hasn’t even happened yet. The goal is to train your mind so you can break out of debilitating mindsets and focus on the bright, shining outcomes you desire. Remember to breathe and quiet your mind. Listen to your heart. Your positive voice is already inside you whispering words of wisdom and brilliant encouragement!
